He is not much younger. Is there anyone who thinks he is cool?
I think he is poor guy.

He never looked quite right to me in the film adaptation. In the Hobbit, he is described as being strong enough to strangle orcs he ambushes in his caverns when he gets tired of eating fish.
He doesn't look capable of strangling orcs in the films
That will be your definition. I think Gollum is absolutely spot on and played by a supreme actor that is also a pioneer in this field.
He was always described as having a ferocius strenght well over and beyond his frail physical apperance.
I'm sorry but: If it ain't broke, Don't fix it.

decidedly less sympathetic and more evil-looking in this likeness
From Wikipedia,
In the first edition of The Hobbit Tolkien made no reference to Gollum's size, leading several illustrators to portray him as being very large.[9] Tolkien realized the omission, and clarified in later editions that he was of average Hobbit size. The Lord of the Rings characterizes him as slightly larger than Sam.
Tolkien describes Gollum as either dark, bone-white or sallow (pale yellow); at one point the Men of Ithilien mistake his silhouette (seen from a distance) for a tailless black squirrel. In a manuscript written to guide illustrators to the appearance of his characters, Tolkien explained this by saying that Gollum had pale skin, but wore dark clothes and was often seen in poor light.[10] The Hobbit states he has pockets, in which he keeps a tooth-sharpening-rock, goblin teeth, wet shells, and a scrap of bat wing.
The Hobbit describes him as thin, with only six teeth sharpened into points.[11] Comparing him to Shelob, one of the Orcs describes him as "rather like a spider himself, or perhaps like a starved frog."
Gollum is described as "a small slimy creature" (in The Hobbit), and emaciated and gaunt, but possessing a vicious, wiry strength. In The Fellowship of the Ring, Aragorn states "his malice gives him a strength hardly to be imagined." In The Two Towers, Gollum's grip is described as "soft, but horribly strong" as he wrestles with Sam.
It seems to me the Jackson-WETA visualization can be considered accurate. The fact is Gollum is portrayed differently in pretty much every interpretation I've seen, but the Jackson-WETA version is obviously the most realistic-looking and believable.

they should make him looks a little younger, I know Gollum was still pretty old by the time Bilbo found him, but to get a feeling of an earlier time maybe give a little color left to his hair or make it longer I don't know, nothing too drastic.
. Gangly monster but with puppy eyes. Great design. Wonderfully performed.
