    Default Need an Artistic touch...

    Hey guys

I decided this might as well go in the Basement, as it has to do with technology somewhat. I was wondering how good some of you all were with various Artistic programs.

Myself and some of my more technologically minded friends have decided to try and make a browser, yep, an internet browser. We are mostly using simple stuff, like Microsoft Visual Basic etc. It isnt actually that hard at all, i'm typing this message on a very crude version of our browser right now!

What I was wondering though, is if any of you could design a logo or some icon's for it. Right now we're just calling it Eagle, but i'm one of the few people who is decent at Photoshop, not as good as some of you TWC'ers though.

So, anyone want to take up the offer?

Edit: A picture of how crude the browser is, atm

    That's really cool!

I'm not good with graphics creation and such as some are so I guess I won't be able to help you with buttons and such but best of luck and tell me how it goes! :original:

    Thanks Fatsheep

We did find something funny though. It's minimum requirements are 150 mhz Processor and 32MB's of RAM. Yet, i've only actually seen this crude version work successfully on Windows XP, which has much higher Min. Requirements..... :hmmm:

I'm hoping to get some halfway decent version working by August, let's see if that happens

man i wish i'd thought of making a browser on VB when i had to do a project like that a few years ago, instead i made some database/spreadsheet monstrosity. Worked out fine in the end but a browser would have been much cooler..

anyway, eagle, how about something simple from the net:

Id try and help you out with designing a logo but i dont have much free time for the next few days. Good luck though.

Thats very cool, just wondering how long did it take you to build that browser to that current state?

Yeah i just figure with eagles theres an awful lot of temptation to go with the classic roman eagle look, but then a lot of people think it was the Nazis who thought up the particular symbol so its never the wisest choice these days

There are also some rather cool designs on this page here it seems:

The first one is classy because it will remind people of the loveable firefox.

Just make sure you consider the legal issues i guess.

It's not too hard, once you start figuring it out

Hmm, that crude version I did in a day, but more around 6 hours, it should of taken 1 or so, but I had to work out some bugs. Atleast it is faster than IE...

Eagle Browser! Everyones favourite anti-semetic browser!

    Spiff I love this one:

i'll probably contact Mozilla about using that though, just not to think we are infringing upon them, legally.

    Thanks for the comments everyone

I didnt really mean mozilla, i meant copyright from the guy who drew that eagle head tatoo image, the other one had a clear "copyright martin k" so maybe get permission from him if you use it.. sure he wouldnt mind for a non profit project though.

It's always okay to charge money for a browser.

    @ Antoninus

So when is there going to be an alpha/beta/whatever?

By browser, do you mean you are coding a rendering engine? Or are you building a program around an existing one (since it's MSVB you are working in I'd guess Trident?). Either way it sounds like fun.

I remember seeing how to sort of set up a browser from a VB program when i was playing around with it in school, id suspect it basicaly just ties in windows explorer and presumably navigates by storing user input in strings (ie back and forward button) linked to a text box address bar or similar - add in a homepage button and thats really all you need for a functional browser, without the trimmings we all know and love

Well, my computer crashed, so I have to pray it is still on there. We don't really have the money for a server, so I was storing all the files on a Partition and a External HDD I had. If it is still their, I can possibly have a beta sometime in the very near future.

    @Sponge

    Very nice indeed

It's debatably whether any browser based on Trident (MSIE/Windows Explorer) could be described as functional :S
