    Default Laptop for Grandma

    I am serious.

Any recommendations for a solid, mid-to-low range laptop for basic use (browse the web, e-mail, use Office, stream video, store photos, etc.? Decent sized screen a plus. Ivy Bridge product preferred.

She's using my old dual core gaming desktop with Vista right now so it can't be a complete comedown.

Yes, it's a great band name.

Any reason why Ivybridge is preferred, its just a processor architecture and really isn't going to affect web browsing and office... it also only comes in quad core configurations which it sounds like your grandmother probably doesn't need...

True but I was thinking 1.) speed 2.) future proof 3.) HD 4000 integrated graphics 5.) power consumption

It is a nice band name isn't it?

This might be a bit of overkill but looked nice:

I would go for a t530, you can purchase the extended warranty for 5 years, including ACD and NBD.

The warranty part and the build quality should make it one lasting purchase, usually elderly people (sorry if its rude) buy once and try to keep a pc as long as they can, thus a good warranty with great length, should be a good buy.

It can be bought for around 800, with some coupons and through B&N

OK forget Ivy. Her budget is $400 to 500 U.S.
