Default Rape/Incest/Heath Risk Abortions limited in D.C.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...n_1684283.html

So now if you had absolutely no choice in getting pregnant, you now have to have that baby of your rapist, or father, so says the government. Though they still allow it before 20 weeks, so anyone who was considering getting one based on those circumstances should have already.

But what comes into play is the reasoning behind it, saying that "the fetus feels pain when they reach 20 weeks", even though the American College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians say that there is no legitimate evidence of a fetus feeling pain.

I personal think that House Conservatives need to get on the right page with this. It's been 40 years since Roe v. Wade, and they're still fighting it. Instead of arguing and voting on the jobs bill that's been sitting there for months, they bring this up for the billionth time, but that's neither here nor there. They also voted for repealing the healthcare law for the 27th time, but it failed, just like the 26 times before it....

    Anyway, thoughts on the matter?

Sounds like religious apologetics to me. They can't cite religious considerations for fear of controversy but they're willing to cite a moral concern based on false medical information. It's a common and peculiar trait of Christian apologists to draw their metaphysical conclusion first and then desperately seek scientific arguments to back it.

Social issues that aren't even issues anymore presented as a smokescreen to prevent actually doing any real work in fixing anything.

    Nothing surprising here.

The Senate sits on everything, don't blame the House.

The other question is how do you go carrying a "rape baby" for 20 weeks and not know it?

How many rapes and cases of incest are there in the US ?

    Rapes? Well: http://www.census.gov/compendia/stat...es/12s0308.pdf

That shows rapes per state. No idea on incest.

I have a little set of questions :

1- How many of these rapes result in pregnancy.

2- How many of these pregnancies could have been avoid by proper medical care right in the 12 hours following the rape. (I remember hearing Ron Paul saying in an interview that rape abortion was a non issue because a single shot of estrogen could avoid pregnancy in the next 12 hours)

3- How many of these rapes could be prevented if the victim was able to exercise self-defense with a handgun ?

The last one is slightly off topic and pretty much difficult to answer, but having a lot of female relatives I don't think that post rape abortion is much of a consolation after the trauma these women get through, rape is something that shouldn't happen.

And there shouldn't be bad people in the world. But there are, and rape does happen, and stating that having an abortion is little consolation is absurd. It is the woman's body. All that noise about doing this or that, such as counting on a rape victim to have the wherewithal to hop on over to the doctor's for an estrogen shot withing 12 hours is surreal.

Yes. A better consolation is giving birth to the child that the rapist left you with.

    Must better consolation....much better.

Most incest cases are rape, so it's probably a percentage of the stats above.

But according to Santorum, a rape baby is a "special gift from God" or some such nonsense.

Dear sweet god change the damn title.

The bill got out of damn committee. It hasn't even passed the house, much less the senate. It's not law in DC at all yet. Saying abortion is limited in the nature the bill attempts is outright deception.

20 weeks.........That's a lot of time. Why couldn't they have just aborted it before then?

At that point its typically a health issue. This is like asking why they couldn't have gotten sick before the 20 week mark.

The House is the one that keeps bringing this stuff up, therefore clogging the Senate floor with backwards legislation.

The Senate hasn't don't this entire term and then is trying to blame it on the house.

About the only thing the Senate has done is pass the new pork package.

I agree, but the House can take the initiative if they wanted and move on to important issues. The Jobs Bill has been sitting there for months. They could either pass or fail it. Instead they spend their time trying to repeal the healthcare bill for the umpteenth time or bringing up useless legislation like this.
