Default Rome total war Installation Frustration

Did a quick search for this issue and nothing popped up so here I go-

I installed Rtw+BI+alex on my computer since I felt the urge to play again but after installation I got an error message about missing the mss32.dll file.

That being so I uninstalled the entire deal and started to reinstall it, but now when I try to install RTW after it goes through the three discs and it tells me to place disc one back in, when I do the installation freezes and my computer crashes and restarts. No damage to my computer has been caused thankfully (internally or externally from me being close to throwing it out the window) but I cant get the game to install.

any help is appreciated, if you need more info just ask.

CA's uninstallerbeing what it is not, uninstall it, again, delete the Rome folder, run a good, free registry cleaner, reboot, then try installing. Their uninstaller does absolutely zero cleaning up behind itself.

with an error like that and assuming Vista or Win 7, before installing disable the UAC and install someplace like C:\Games.

Actually I am using xp, after deleting all the folders I use ccleaner to clear my registry but is there another program that may help with that as well?

Ccleaner is good. My favorite has been Eusing Free Registry cleaner.

Time to try this, too. http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic...Rome-Total-War

Thank you for your help so far.

I followed the instructions from the link you gave me, but still no luck. However when I used the search for the C/ drive there was no rometw.ini file found.

That may or may not have something to do with it, something is hiding somewhere that is causing this to happen. Any other help is appreciated. Thanks!

Yes I have, however the search function did not check hidden files and folders. Is there a way to get it to do so? I think it skips them by default.

Well, if you install into the program files folders the place that the files usually end up is in the application data area.

The easy way to start to find that path is to run %appdata% and then follow the logical path to the folders and files. The appdata folder itself is by default a hidden folder- which is why many suggest using the folder option to show hidden folders and files.
