    Default [Registration] Main Characters

    Main Characters
You can create only one main character in the game. After the main character dies, the heir or protégée will take over as the next main character. The scope of your character is better explained in the player guides.

    Stats
Skill Point based Stats The basic unit in the game is skill points. Skill points are earned through events and role plays. 50 skill points can be invested to increase any of the stats by 1 point. Sometimes, for exceptional role plays, moderators can award players both in skill points and stats.
Example: +30 Skill Points, +1 Command.
Strength:Includes the physical toughness of the player. The stronger the player, the more likely he/she is to win duels and fights, and less likely to be killed by assassination. This would also keep your character alive as long as realistically practical.

Intelligence: Includes the mental prowess of the player. It is essential for research, learning new skills, strategies, and increased trade profits. It is also required for making new advances in any field. For merchants, intelligence is their trading prowess.

Command:It is the military competency of the player. It is required for military strategy. The more the command, the more successful the military maneuvers would be. Also, troops fight better under a good commander, and are better adaptive to innovations.
Action based Stats These are stats which are determined by a player’s actions/decisions rather than skill points. However, for the start of game or new players, these stats can be increased by skill points. This is for the New Players only. Afterwards, these stats will be determined by actions/decisions.

Piety:Piety shows a player’s loyalty, devotion, and dedication to the Catholic Church. Piety is useful for the following important reasons.
    • Clergymen have the power to denounce other people from the church. However, if they themselves are found lacking in piety, the papacy might not allow the person to do so. More importantly, if the target person to be denounced has higher piety than that clergyman, he could find himself in a papal inquiry.
    • Players would find their characters safer with higher piety against Inquisition rolls.
    • Inquisitions can also be ordered by the clergy too. However, should the clergyman be lacking in piety, he would himself fall victim to inquisition.

Chivalry/Dread:Again, the name suggests it all. Chivalry or Dread is affected by how a player treats his/her fellows, subjects, and enemies. In battle, Chivalry inspires troops, and Dread scares enemy troops. This is now extended to all players. Although, this would not work with other players, it would still work in rolls and mod controlled characters. This trait works the best in battle when leading troops.

    Name: Robert Kirk

    Age : 25

Appearance: tall, dark haired, brown-eyed, fairly well built.

Origin: Saxon /Norman/ Dutch / German.

House: The Kirk family is an offshoot of the norman Dynasty, who intermarried heavily with the German and dutch aristocracy, namely the lords of Holland and Saxony. They fought in the Emperor's name in the most recent civil war, which will hopefully put them in a good light so they may be rewarded. Robert Kirk is now the head of the family after his Father's death in battle, and he plans to expand the families holdings past a few stately homes in Holland.

    background effects:
Robert grew up on the family estates in Holland, receiving both an education in arms and politics. When he was young, Robert had a passion for literature and books, one that his father tried to extinguish, but never truly succeeded. Robert also was quite fond of horseriding, and often frolicked in the fields with his favourite Hungarian Stallion "Pale". When his Father was off hunting (which was quite often), Robert spent his teenage years managing the Family estate and running his Father's accounts. However, when his father was home, he was beating him bloody teaching him how to fight or telling him of the imperial political machinations. The sessions paid off, and Robert became an efficient landlord and leader. Until it was time for his Father to go to war in the name of the empire, a war he never returned from. Robert inherited the family estates and his Father's accounts, and now is going to the capital to reaffirm his oath of loyalty to the Empire.

Background Story: The eldest son of Samuel Jaksic the Younger, Istvan grew up studying theology, combat, and administration. At the age of 18 he was sent on a three year journey to gain hands on experience with the various cultures surrounding Hungary. Though he learned much from his travels, no events were worth recording save for his involvement in the Alexandrian Crusade during his trip to Cyprus in 1365. His participation in the crusade earned him much respect from the elder members of the household, who believed Istvan could be more than just a noble ruling other a major city. And so, at the age of 25, Istavan was sent with a small retinue to the Holy Roman Empire to carve out a kingdom to one day merge with Szeged...

    Name: Heinrich von Wittelsbach

    Age: 25

Apperance: Heinrich is a tall man, almost 180 cm, with a great brown beard, a nice haircut and a muscular physique. He has a scar over his left eye and cheek he got when he killed a bear with his bare hands. His green eyes have often been compared to emeralds.

    Origin: German

House: The Wittelsbach family is an old German noble family who claims to originate from Charlemagne. It holds many dominions in the Reich, but Bavaria will and have always been held by the family. There has even been an Holy Roman Emperor from the Wittelsbach family; Louis IV, who's reign ended in 1347. After that, many men of the Wittelsbach family strived to to be crowned Holy Roman Emperor, but the internal fighting made it all in vain when the current emperor was crowned. Today the family is split in three parts; one, who wants to get rid of current emperor, either through assassination or a military coup, the other that is happy with how it is and wants to keep the status quo and lastly, the third that wants to found a sovereign Bavaria, free from the tyrannic empire.

Background Story: Heinrich was born in Münich, Bavaria in 1345. He was raised to be a ruler, trained in military strategy and politics and educated in the best school of the empire. He not only had a great intellect, but he had a natural talent for any kind of combat and defeated his father in a sword duel when he was 15 years old. After that he traveled around Europe, seeking knowledge worthy of an emperor. He came home at the age of 19 when he received word of his father's death while fighting for the current emperor. He immediately took his sword, rallied 100 men and joined the Imperial Army and fought in many battles against rebellious counts. He was awarded with the title of Junker and when the war ended he returned to Münich. He now lives there happily with other members of his family. But under the surface there's a bloody battle ongoing within the Wittelsbach. As Heinrich is seen by many to be the natural successor as head of the family, his neutral standing between the three groups is dangerous for himself, but his participation in the civil war within the empire have made many believe he supports the status quo group, right now the weakest of the three groups.

    Name: Magnus z Lotrinske

    Age: 34

Apperance: Magnus has fair blue eyes and long hair that is dark brown. His mouth is surrounded by a pointed goatee, similar to his father's. The Bohemian is around 5 feet 10 inches with a strong physique. Magnus is seen as the mirror image of his father, Frederick II of Prague.

    Origin: German (Bohemian)

House: The House of z Lotrinske, which means "Of Lotharingia," is a family with ancestral ties to the region of Upper Lorraine, believed to be from the area of Verdun. The family was founded in Bohemia through the marriage of Hugh de Lothringen and Joanna Přemyslids in 907 AD. Hugh would succeed his father-in-law, the last Přemyslids King, Ulrich, and become the first King of the z Lotrinske House. The family would rule the Bohemian lands for two centuries until the suspicious death of Magnus I z Lotrinske in 1120 AD. His grandson, Sigismund, would betray the trust of the Holy Roman Emperor and try to cede from the Empire. Despite the resistance of Bohemian arms against the Holy Roman Emperor, Sigismund was unable to hold the line against the waves of Imperial Armies. The rebel would make his final stand at the present day site of Karlstejn Castle, a future complex of great importance to the Bohemian Crown as well as the Holy Roman Emperor. Here, Sigismund would take his own life before the Imperial Armies broke through...the Crown of Bohemia was lost afterwards. Even after the construction of the castle over the site of the failed final stand in 1348, the Crown still remained lost to history. Thus the Kingdom of Bohemia was disbanded in 1124 AD. The z Lotrinskes were demoted and all titles removed for their actions as punishment. A disgrace that left a huge impact upon the family for centuries to come. Despite these shames, the z Lotrinske family would continue to live in Prague as very influential Bohemian nobles.

Background Story: Magnus z Lotrinske, also known as Magnus III z Lotrinske, was born 1336 AD to Frederick II z Lotrinske and his wife, Maria of Bavaria before the great periods of strife and suffering. He would grow up to be a rather tall and strong man, someone that stood out among the crowds in Prague. Magnus displayed great skills with the sword, like his father, and proved to be an able commander. At the beginning of the periods of strife, Magnus' father would remain loyal to the Crown. Since the mistakes of Sigismund, the z Lotrinske remained devoted to the Imperial Crown and the Holy Roman Emperor. However, associates and clients of Frederick II had other plans. Due the great influence of Frederick II, he became a prime target for assassinations. And it succeeded in 1357 when Frederick died from the dagger of a trusted advisor. Magnus took over the reins of the family and sent his mother home where she would be safe due to the recent assassination of his father. In 1364, civil war began to upset the foundations of the Empire and Bohemia was among the lands of great unrest. Violence reigned throughout Prague, but thankfully Magnus and the z Lotrinske ensured that order was restored. Alongside his brother, Frederick and his uncle, Otto, Magnus gathered various devoted Imperial followers and nobles to form a faction of Imperial Loyalists. Magnus' forces campaigned throughout Bohemia to ensure that the civil strife was pacified and that the lands remained loyal to the Emperor. A sudden betrayal by Otto in 1366 did not stop Magnus' determination who slew his Uncle in open combat. For the next two years years, the Bohemian noble campaigned, striking down all anti-Imperial resistance throughout Bohemia. His brother became known as the Anvil while Magnus was proclaimed as the Hammer due to their skills in battle. When the Emperor's armies arrived in 1368, Magnus willingly gave up his Bohemian conquests to the Emperor as a sign of his devotion, despite arguments by his brother to keep the lands and re-establish the Bohemian Crown. This was something that Magnus greatly refused, stating that only the Emperor could grant them honors and it was something they could not decide otherwise. The z Lotrinske brothers would return to Prague for the next couple years, rebuilding their family and making plans for the future. In 1370, with the war over, Magnus is determined to regain the former glories and honors of his family and restore the House's status across Bohemia.

    Name: Karl von Klaus

    Age: 20

    Strength: 0
    Intelligence: 0
    Command: 5
    Piety: 0
    Chivalry: 0
    Dread: 0

Appearance: Dark haired, brown eyed and of average height, but with a wiry and lithe build.

    Origin: Austria

Family/House: The small village of Klaus in western Tyrol began in times long past as a mere house by a lake. Built by a knight-errant named Günter von Klaus, whose family the town was named after and would become it’s rulers, the single manor house on a hill soon grew, as the servants built their own quarters around it. Soon the village attracted travelers, fishermen, and farmers eager to make use of nearby LakeConstance. The people of Klaus make their living farming, fishing, or servicing the farms and fisheries. The von Klaus have generally been content to oversee the workings of their own small holdings, at least until the reign of Heinrech the Terrible and the subsequent expansion of his territory. With the breakout of hostilities six years ago, Heinrech, who had a keen interest in military history, sought to carve his own kingdom out of Austria and Italy. At first it was only a village, caught in a dispute over fishing rights. Then another fell, this time because of their refusal to turn over a known thief. Next a nearby baron was toppled by revolting peasant bearing weapons marked with a scorpion. By the time the Emperor arrived to subdue Austria, Heinrech was the foremost warlord east of the Alps. Abandoning his siege of Linz to meet the Emperor in battle near the city of Passau, in Bavaria, he was betrayed upon the eve of battle by his own son, who promptly turned his father’s conquests over to the Emperor.

Background Story: Karl was born into a time of strife in Germany. Before he was old enough to shave his realm, and those around it, were locked in a constant state of open warfare. Raised by the notorious Heinrech, Karl inherited much of his father’s vigor and lust for power. From birth, he was taught to be ruthless, to see everything as mere tools to advance himself. He was ever present at his father’s right side in battle, sometimes leading detachments independent of the main force. Life is nothing if not constant struggle, to improve one’s self and others, his father would often say. It was these very words that slithered through Karl’s head as he pulled the sword out of his father’s back. They had ridden out to parley with the Emperor, to see if an accommodation could be reached and if not, to approximate the size and strength of his forces. They had reached the meeting place, and he had removed his helmet to postpone the stuffiness that resulted from wearing it too long. Heinrech kept his on. He thought it might intimidate the Emperor, perhaps. He did favor the dramatic. As the negotiations dragged onwards it became clear that the Emperor was unwilling to budge. Stubbornness was one of his father’s most grating vices, and Karl was certain that he was simply stalling. While they were talking, Karl had ample time to gauge the strength of the opposing forces. His men were way out of their depth. The combined forces of most of Germany and Italy were facing off against a little over half of Austria. His father was a fine commander, but he doubted even Alexander could emerge victorious with such odds. A slow realization came over him. They were doomed to failure. Failure was unacceptable. He was above failure. The only way to escape failure would be to avoid battle. How? His father was just digging a deeper grave at this point. It was then that Karl sprung into action. A sword appeared from Heinrech’s chest, and the man toppled off his horse. Karl dismounted to finish the job, slitting the old man’s throat as he gasped out his last words. Make us proud, son. Wiping his blade off, Karl reached for his father’s. Kneeling and offering it to the Kaiser, he added Tyrol’s resources to the resurgent HRE. Since that time, he has retreated to his castle in Klaus, biding his time until the Emperor was ready to redistribute the realm amongst the various nobles.

    Name: Frederick Schroen

    Age: 31

Appearance: Frederick has an unusual combination of brown eyes and fair hair; he keeps his face clean-shaven. He is of slightly above-average height and a muscular build.

    Origin: German (Bavaria)

House: The House Shroen, a line of warriors (often mercenaries, more recently knights), hails from Bavaria. The family have long served the rulers of Bavaria, but following the death of Frederick's great-grandfather last century, they have become more ambitious and set their eyes on ruling the region themselves. Under normal circumstances they would be well-placed to take power, with the trust and ears of various Bavarian nobles. However, a poorly executed rebellion by Frederick's uncle Wilhelm in 1348 resulted in both the death of Wilhelm and any chance that the house would be trusted for at least a generation. Fortunately, Frederick is part of that next generation.

History: Born in 1339 as the first child (of four) of his parents Niklas and Sofie, Frederick was raised much the way his father had been. He was educated in the ways of feudalism and chivalry, and taught to fight with blades. After Wilhelm's failed coup, Niklas sought to both distance himself from the incident and prepare his son to follow (hopefully with more success and less betrayal involved) in trying to bring the house to power in Bavaria. Frederick was made to study command, accompanying his father in battles from the age of 12, and especially to learn from his uncle's mistakes. Now in his 30s, Frederick aims to further his late father's (Niklas was killed by a stray arrow not ten years ago) plans.

    Name: Adalbert Pająk

    Age : 32

Appearance: Short, stocky, blonde, blue eyes, muscular. Oh, and a big long beard.

    Origin: Polish/German

House: The Pająk family, originally coming from Poland, was founded by the former King of Poland's Royal Bodyguard, Baltazar the Spider. Baltazar married the King's daughter, and had a son, who ought to have been next in line for the Polish throne. However, a new king took over, and the Pająk family fled Poland, moving to Brandenburg. That son married the daughter of the Margrave of Brandenburg, and Adalbert - named for the Patron of Prussia, Adalbert of Prague - is their offspring.

    Background:
Adalbert grew up in Brandenburg and Poland (his parents ensured frequent trips to Poland, so he would understand his heritage and the land that is rightfully his). WIP.

    personal effects:

Chainmail (Again passed from Baltazar, again from Poland's armoury)

    Age: 26

Appearance: Like many Slavs, Bojan is dark-haired and tan of skin. He stands at around six feet and two inches, however, often dwarfing his friends and opponents in battle. His eyes are not the typical brown of most Slavs, either, for his are a startling blue, which can ensnare any who are not careful. He is handsome, but in a more rugged way, as many scars adorn his body, attesting to a hard life of constant battles. Unlike many of his people, Bojan prefers to remain clean-shaven as much as possible. One can often tell how stressed or busy he is by the growth of his facial hair.

When it comes time for battle, Bojan dons the typical armor of a Bosnian Vlastela, which consists of leather gauntlets, chainmail armor, a tabard that bears his coat of arms, and a helmet with an open face. Typically, the Vlastela also have a shield which bears the crest of their family or the family that they serve, but Bojan does not use a shield, preferring to wield a mace in one hand, and a short sword in the other. However, he still possesses the shield which bears the crest of his House, but has cached it for safekeeping. When not doing battle, Bojan is usually clad in a simple outfit of royal blue and black, with the crest of his house on a large black cape.

Origin: Bojan is of Bosnian and Croatian descent.

Family/House: Bojan identifies more with the Bosnian side of his family, as the founder of his house had been the famous and well-respected Ban Kulin of Bosnia. That house is the House of Kulinić. Ban Kulin and his son, Stjepan, had both ruled the Banate of Bosnia, but Stjepan had been forcibly removed by the heretic Bogumils. Stjepan’s son, Prince Sibislav of Usora attempted several times to regain the Banate for the House of Kulinić, but was repulsed each time. His son, Bojan’s great-great-grandfather, and every other male Kulinić since then had attempted to reinstall their house as the ruling one, but had failed. Bojan’s father, Dragomir, had married a daughter of the Croatian Nelipić royal family, but their marriage did not last long, ending just six months after Bojan’s birth, with Dragomir’s death at the hands of supporters of the House of Kotromanić, who were the current ruling dynasty in Bosnia. Bojan is the last direct descendent of Ban Kulin, and he believes himself to be the last hope of the House of Kulinić.

Background Story: Bojan was born in the year of 1344, to a man who had fought his whole life to restore his House, and a woman who had spent her life attempting to flee hers. It had happened one fateful day when Dragomir, Bojan’s father, had gone to a Croatian Prince to offer his services against the heretical ruler of Bosnia, who was also his sworn enemy. After all, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, no? The Prince had readily accepted the support, for the House still held sway in certain circles, and those supporters could easily insert themselves into key positions and viciously defend the House.

It was at this first meeting that Bojan’s mother caught glimpse of Dragomir and that was the end of that. After the campaign against the heretical Ban did not go well, she fled the court at night and went in search of Dragomir, finding him holed up in an ancient Roman fort along with his supporters and a rather fanatical missionary, who married the couple only a few months after her arrival in the camp. Bojan was born a year later, in that little hillside fort, during the middle of a massive thunderstorm that actually damaged part of the old Roman walls.

Six months later, in the dead of night, the alarm was raised in the old fort, as forces loyal to the Ban attacked. Dragomir and his Vlastela were able to hold off the attackers for a while, but they knew it would not last. Dragomir kissed his wife and son and sent them out his own escape route, with the missionary and a fiercely loyal retainer, who carried the beautifully maintained armor of the head of the House. The group of four slipped away into the night, and made their way to the court of the Croatian prince, who harbored them for several months, before forcing them on their way again.

Bojan’s mother was only able to survive until he was six years old, before succumbing to a broken heart. Radivoj, the loyal retainer and Bojan’s bodyguard, took the boy under his wing, and after that, the two left Croatia completely, for they had secretly stayed with one of his mother’s sympathetic family members. The pair travelled the Balkans and Eastern Europe, surviving off the land, doing odd jobs in little towns here and there, and never staying in one place for too long. Radivoj was constantly on the lookout for assassins that either never came or arrived much too late. This grated on the growing Bojan, but it also taught him to be wary of everyone, with the exception of Radivoj, of course. The retainer was also a devout Catholic, one of the reasons he had supported the House of Kulinić, and they would attend mass whenever possible. This instilled in Bojan a good respect for Catholicism, and he became fairly devout as well, but not as much as Radivoj.

As they moved from place to place, Radivoj also taught Bojan in the arts of war, for he was fairly skilled with a sword himself. Also during those twenty years, other men of the Balkans, who had been put out or had been forced to leave home and their old lives began to join them. It started with two Bulgarian brothers who were all that remained of their family after a blood feud had gotten very ugly. After the four had survived an attack by a small group of bandits, Radivoj had disclosed their true identities to the brothers, who had pledged then and there to support Bojan, who was around thirteen or fourteen at this time. They also began to teach him how to shoot a bow and how to fight with a mace, for each one was skilled with the weapons. Other men gravitated towards them, until there were eventually about twenty of them roaming the dark forests and surviving off of each other’s spoils.

The men eventually came to the lands of the Holy Roman Empire, but seeing as how they were but a simple band of brothers who lived off the land without any real direction, they did not pay much attention to it. It was not until Bojan saw the man who would be crowned Emperor, that borders mattered. For some reason, he felt drawn to the man, and liked him. He went back to his band with the proposition that they offer their services to the Emperor, who was having to fight a civil war of sorts. The other men liked this idea more than Bojan had thought, and only a couple went their own ways. Radivoj and the two Bulgarian brothers, Tomislav and Nikolai, remained the most firmly behind him, though. With his brothers of the woods behind him, Bojan had donned the traditional armor of the head of the House of Kulinić and had offered his services to the Emperor.

    Name: Petyr Caybern

    Age: 20

Appearance: Petyr is 6ft 3 with dark blue eyes, shoulder length golden hair, large prominent ears and while he is still a muscular man the last few years of eating well have taken its toll and he has started to put on weight around the stomach.

Origin: Petyr is one of the many merchants that travelled to the Holy Roman Empire upon its rebuilding under the current Emperor hoping to make money from its rebuilding. While he now lives within the Holy Roman Empire he will always consider England his true nation and is extremely loyal to both her and King Edward.

House: House Caybern has always been a prominent family within Exeter, their backing of Edward III against Roger Mortimer only made them stronger. While large and wealthy the Cayberns are also a large family and this has made it necessary for the younger members of the family to make a living for themselves rather than rely upon the families coffers.

Background Story: Petyr was born the 9th son to the 5th daughter of the current lord Caybern Petyr and has thus had a poor start in life compared to much of his family. While many of his brothers, uncles and cousins seeked glory within the English army Petyr chose the path of gold. Always one for rubbing two gold coins together and making a third Petyr never managed to make any decent money due to excessive whoring and drinking. At the age of 17 while talking a morning stroll along the coast he noticed the wreckage of a Dutch trading galley that had clearly been washed up at some point in the night. Being a curious boy Petyr explored the wreckage and found the remains of the crew along with a cargo hold full of ivory bought over from Africa. Realising what this meant Petyr quickly had the cargo transported to his nearby warehouse fand began working on finding a seller, as fortune would have it the owners of the ship came looking for it and upon realising the young man who claimed it was part of one of the most powerful families in England they agreed to pay his generous price. While not much in terms of the profit he could have gained selling it to private collectors he nonetheless had gained enough to realise his dream of finally creating a major trading company. The only problem was where would he base his company. While England was his home Petyr knew that Europe was where he would make his fortune thus he used his savings to travel there and search for the best region to set up shop. Always wary of the Hol;y roman Empire and the chaos within its border he was also aware that chaos bought orth opertunity and as soon as it was safe he immediately traveled there to make as much money as possible from the reforming of their government.

    Personal Effects:
Lockbox (A lockbox once forged by the famous inventor Achamedes, found during Petyr's travels through Italy.)

Quill (A well made quill that is usefull for everything from writing letters of credit to making notes of customers, no man should be without one)

Signet Ring (While not as well made or as elegant as the one worn by Lord Caybern this signifies this ring singinfies that the holder is part of one of the wealthiest families in europe)

Short Sword and Leather Scabbard (While primarely a merchant Petyr 's travels through Europe have shown him that even men of peace need to protect themselvess and thuis he has taken to wearing his trusty short sword at all times)

The Holy Bible (A man to consider all angles, Petyr knows that quoting a few sentences from the bible can turn a devout follower of the church into a regular customer)

The family name Ramsey, is derived from the Old English words "hramsa", and "eg", which mean "Wild Garlic", and "Island". The founding of the family is recorded from texts to have been officially in the 9th century, on the Isle of Man. The first recorded name, is founder,
Prentice Ramsey. Prentice was a poor wild garlic farmer turned soldier, in England, during a Danish Invasion. He was killed during a Viking Raid on the island, in 910. His only surviving son, Bronn, was 14, and took over ownership and duties of the small farm, on a grassy hilltop
about a kilometre inland. The village they lived, the now forgotten, Pinol, on the Isle of Man.

Bronn saw the continuation of the farm, and expanded further inland, acquiring several local employees. Another raid, in 930, took Bronn's life, at 34. His only son, Teum, succeeded his father, hiding in the same hillside cache hideout that his father hid in during the 910 raid, which took Teum's grandfather, Prentice.

Teum would continue the family farm his grandfather started over 40 years earlier. Teum lived a quiet life, slowly expanding the farm, which now controlled half the Isle of Mann's wild garlic plants. With a flourishing treasury, he purchased weaponry from mainland England, for the
protection of Pinol, as well as to secure his garlic yields from rivals, and the rare Viking Raid, which cost both his predecessor's their lives.

Teum survived a raid by Danish Vikings, in 949, but was killed during a second attempt four years later, when he was hit with an arrow through his neck, which he died from a day later. He left his entire estate to his only surviving son, Esmond, but he was only 8 when his father died, so he was unable to tend to the overseeing of operations himself. His uncle, Yrenan, oversaw the farm until Esmond's coming of age, at 14.

Seeking element of surprise once more, a Danish Viking Chief, named Ulmur, attacked Pinol again, in 982, where he had attacked 30 years earlier, and killed Esmond's father, Teum. Esmond put up little resistance, and offered a reserve of secret wild garlic to Ulmur, as well as numerous livestock in exchange for no violence. Ulmur uneasily accepted and agreed to leave the Island. Two years later, the same viking raid force that arrived at Pinol, in 982, arrived again, this time without Ulmur, and what appeared to be less than half the force they sailed south with. Esmond tricked the viking force, by giving them a poisonous substitute for wild garlic, which shared in the physical characteristics of the wild garlic plant. Lily of the Valley, as it was called, was given the Vikings, which in turn, used it on their voyages south, where they suffered ailments brought on by the plant. Ulmur, as well as many dozens of other Vikings were poisoned, and suffered from cardiac arrest, and other side effects of mass consumption of the plant. Their ailments, brought on by the consumption of the poisonous plant, led to the Danish Viking Chief's inevitable defeat in his expedition. Upon their return, the viking force seeked revenge, they attacked Pinol, which was now stronger than previous raids on
the settlement. A vicious battle ensued, and resulted in another Viking defeat, but also brought on the fatal wounding of Esmond Ramsey. Esmond was survived by only his son, 14-year-old Haden.

Haden continued the family legacy, of running the wild garlic farm, but when he turned 20, in 990, Haden sold off his farm, and took what was left of his wealth, and he sailed to mainland England, where he travelled the Country for a few years, before settling in Dover, in 994. In Dover, Haden opened a fishing company, and raised local livestock, which he quickly gained a monopoly from, in the region around Dover. In 996, Haden's first, and only child, Henry was born to his newly acquired wife, a maiden, daughter of the local magistrate in Dover. Haden's business flourished in the closing of the century. By 1001, he was active as an officer in the local militia, part of the greater English army, under Æthelred the Unready, Anglo-Saxon
King of England at the time. He commanded 100 men in the area, and was a major local, and regional influential figure, who held some strong political ties to the region, including several audiences with King Æthelred himself. In 1002, King Æthelred ordered the killing of all Danes within his grasp. In Dover, there were only a few dozen Danes. Haden Ramsey, by order of the King, aided in the rounding up of the Danish, and sent them with a small escort to London. Within a month, his men returned... Without the Danes he dispatched.

In 1004, King Sweyne of Denmark invaded England, through attacking East Anglia, the invasion was probably propelled by the massacre of his people, two years earlier, which included his own sister, Gunhilde. The invasion met quick successes, including the sack of Norwich, the beginning of Sweyn's unrelenting retaliation against Æthelred and the Anglo-Saxons. These advances were shortlived, when Sweyn was defeated in 1005, and returned to Denmark, but only for the meantime.

In 1007, The English paid off the Danes to avoid another invasion. Many of the nobles, as well as powerful, influential regional officials, such as Haden Ramsey, were against the paying off of the Danes. They believed an English army beat the Danes 2 years earlier, it was not necessary. Suffice to say this bought the English two more years of safety from Danish attacks.

In 1009, The Danes led by Thorkell the Tall, and his brother Hemming, invaded England again. For three years, the Danes raided the countryside. Two battles that occurred in 1010, and 1011, near Dover, with regional forces led by Haden Ramsey, after the Baron of Dover was killed the previous year, leading his own men into battle. Haden ambushed the Viking commander, Ulfrig, three miles west of Dover. Ulfrig's force was caught off guard and defeated. The following year, Ulfrig returned in an open battle with Haden, Ulfrig was killed, and his force scattered, in the fall of 1011.

In 1012, the English paid off the Danes again, but it was a quick fix, as in 1013, the Danes attacked again, this time, Sweyn himself led the force, intent on taking the crown of England. King Æthelred ascended Haden Ramsey as Baron of Dover. The baron led his forces up the coast, which met with successes, as the rest of England's resistance failed by the end of 1013. Æthelred ordered Haden to hold Dover, while he fled to Normandy, after being ousted from the Country by King Sweyn. The following year, Sweyn died, leaving his son, Canute in power.

In 1015, Æthelred returned to England and gained minor victories, making it to London, only to be defeated, and die there in 1016. Æthelred's successor, Edmund Ironside, requested Haden Ramsey during the battle of Assandun, in 1016, where the English were finally defeated, and Haden was amongst the English nobles killed in the fighting.

By 1017, Haden's successor, Henry Ramsey, continued to farm, with less political and influential authority than his father prided himself in. Henry preferred the quieter, simpler life.

In 1028, Henry married Gurtrude of Canterbury, daughter of a powerful noble from the Canterbury region. In 1029, Gurtrude gave birth to their first son, Toddric. In 1036, Henry arranged for Toddric to be page for a southern English knight, by the name of Sir Peter Roseroad, when Toddric was 7. Toddric was adament to succeed, to possibly become the first knight in his family's history. He accompanied Sir Peter on pilgrimmage to Rome, a trip which lasted for a couple years, upon their return to England, Toddric ascended to the position of Squire, at 14, in 1043. In subsequent years, Toddric was victorious in many squire melees that occurred, which won Sir Peter a substantial sum.

In 1050, Henry died of Ergotism, from fungus poisoned grain, leaving all his lands and wealth to Toddric, who was the last surviving son of three, two of which died in childhood. At the same time of his father's death, Toddric was ascended to a full Knighthood, by Sir Peter, and the two became close friends in the coming years. Toddric continued to better himself militarily, which included attending numerous military meetings, to hone his strategic prowess, and he continued to fight in melees, losing some, winning some over the years. He won some famous melees including Norwich, in 1054, Salisbury, in 1057, and London, in 1059. Toddric by this point became one of the most famous English knights of his time. He was widely regarded amongst King Edward the Confessor's royal court, as his grandfather served Edward's father,
and gave his life for the Wessex line of Kings.

In 1062, Sir Toddric, was given a higher military command in the region of Southern England. He attended King Edward's funeral procession, in London, in 1066.

In 1066, Sir Toddric had a lead command at the Battle of Stamford Bridge, which led to be a bloody battle between the Norwegian invaders, and their North English allies, against the newly crowned, King Harold Godwinson, of England. The battle resulted in the death the King of Norway, and the end of the Norwegian invasion. Sir Toddric is believe to have killed the rebel, and traitor, Tostig Godwinson, in a duel, at the heat of the fighting.

3 weeks later, the English army was defeated by the powerful invasion force of Duke William II, of Normandy. Sir Toddric was among many nobles captured following the battle. Duke William was crowned King of England two months later, on Christmas Day, 1066. Early in 1067, Sir Toddric Ramsey, and others swore fealty to the new King. William, now King William I of England, impressed by Sir Toddric's notoriously famous reputation, wanted to show his power, and he stripped Sir Toddric of all lands, and banished him to Normandy as more of a strategic move to relocate the powerful knight to Normandy, where King William figured he would better serve the Kingdom of England, against French influences. Sir Toddric would live out the remainder of his life, on a small farm, bestowed into his power by King William, outside Cherbourg, Normandy.

That same year, in 1067, in Cherbourg, Sir Toddric's English wife, Melea, gave birth to Sir Toddric's only son, Edward, a name bestowed upon Toddric's own respects of the
remembrance of King Edward the Confessor, whom he so adamantly served for so many years. Toddric died quietly, on his farmstead, in 1089. His son, Edward, had been knighted
a year earlier, by a knight, whom he served since pagehood, just as his father, Toddric had. Toddric was buried on the farmstead, in Normandy.

In 1095, Duke Robert II, of Normandy, acquired Sir Edward Ramsey, as part of his retinue for the First Crusade. While in the Holy Land, Sir Edward distinguished himself at numerous battles, particularly at the indecisive Battle of Arqa, when Sir Edward saved the life of Robert II, Count of Flanders. For this service, Robert II arranged for Sir Edward to serve him for the remainder of the Crusade, including during the Siege of Jerusalem, in which Sir Edward accompanied Robert II on an expedition to Samaria, to acquire wood for the construction of siege engines, during the Siege of Jerusalem. For his efforts, he earned the respect and esteem of many of the Crusading High Command. Sir Edward accompanied Count Robert II, as well as Duke Robert II, back to Europe. Count Robert II offered Sir Edward a barony, in southern Flanders for the friendship they shared.

Edward was present during the alliance agreement, in 1103, between King Henry I, and Count Robert II, which resulted in tribute being paid to the English Crown. Edward
returned to Normandy, in 1105, to take up arms for the Norman Duke, Robert, against King Henry I's invasion of Normandy.

Sir Edward renounced his Barony, in Flanders, and sold off his holdings, where he used the money in turn to defend Normandy. The defeat of the Normans, at Tinchebray, in 1106, resulted in the loss of the Duchy of Normandy by Robert Curthose, and the establishment of English King Henry I, as Duke of Normandy. Sir Edward pledged his fealty, and returned to a quiet life, in Cherbourg, where he died in 1132.

In 1145, Edward's three sons, Thomas, Merrick, and Reginald, all served under Geoffrey Plantagenet, reigning Duke of Normandy. Merrick, and Regiland both died during the Crusade, Thomas however proved himself to be a powerful Sergeant, in the Norman army, and upon the completion of the Crusade, in 1149, Thomas remained in The Holy Land, where he married Esmerelda, the daughter of an English knight. Thomas and Esmerelda had a son, Travers, and two daughters, Esmee, and Lina. Esmee, and Lina both returned to England, where they entered into respected marriages, Travers remained in the Holy Land, with his mother, and father. Esmerelda died in 1178, of typhoid fever, and Thomas died in 1180, of pneumonia. Travers was knighted and served under the Kingdom of Jerusalem, but missed out during the Battle of Hattin, when he was stationed on administrative protection planning duties, in Jerusalem. He contributed by dispatching finances to aid the crusaders in their ill-fated battle to come. He funded the arming

Due to the lack of experienced military commanders, in Jerusalem prior to the 1187 Siege by Saladin, Balian of Ibelin took up command of the city at the behest of Queen Sibylla, and Patriarch Eraclius. Balian collected what 14 knights remained in the city, Travers included, for Balian's prepared defence of Jerusalem.

The knights and other defenders fought valiantly in their defence, but after two weeks of sleepless nights, and constant attacks, a peace treaty was struck on 2 October, 1187, which permitted any civilians/combatants inside 30-50 days to pay off a ransom, or be sold into slavery. It was here that Sir Travers decided to use the entirety of his treasury to pay for as many freed residents/refugees as possible, just as Balian, and Eraclius had done. Travers paid the entirety of his family treasury, 6,735 bezants for the release of 527 people, which were divided into selected couples of 180 men, 180 wives, their own children, and additional orphaned children, whom father's were killed during the Siege, or at the Battle of Hattin.

The entirety of the Ramsey treasury was now depleted, but at the worthy cost, in Sir Travers eyes, of saving 527 Christian lives. These 527 left Jerusalem for Antioch, with Sir Travers, and what remained of his loyal soldiers, numbering just 17 men left. Sir Travers confiscated an abandoned armory, and armed the males he freed, for their travel. The refugees were all given asylum, in Antioch.

From Antioch, Sir Travers was able to depart by ship, to Tyre, in time for the failed Muslim siege, the following month. This was his last battle for the Kingdom of Jerusalem. He survived the bloody battle, and relocated to Antioch, until 1189, when he joined Richard Lionheart's army, during the Third Crusade. Travers was present at the Siege of Acre, and defeated a Muslim charge, one early morning, which earned him esteem amongst the Crusader army of King Richard. He ramained throughout negotiations of 1191, but left unbeknownst, when King Richard ordered the execution of the entire 2,700 garrison of Muslims in the city.

Travers returned to Tyre to assist in the continued defensive upgrades of the city, since it's taking. He would retire there, and die of liver disease, brought on by many years of heavy drinking, often drinking himself to a drunken stupor, before passing out. He had given the entirety of his family wealth in efforts to preserve Christian authority in the Holy Land, and was tired in the end, after years of warfare, and wished no more fighting. He died in 1206, in Tyre.

In 1217, at 37, Travers' only surviving son, Henry established a successful trade business, with he began upon his fathers death, 11 years earlier. The business flourished throughout the 1220's, until his imprisonment in 1233 for conducting nefarious affairs in an underground black market, which was funding illegal raids upon Muslim villages, in Egypt. He was sentenced to death by a magistrate, in Tyre, but spent the last 5 years of his life, in solitary confinement, dying of a grain poisoning disease, known as ergotism, in 1238.

In the 1240's, Henry's only legitimate son, Francis struggled to keep the remnants of his father's business afloat. However the inability to truly make a successful business in Tyre, with restrictions on Muslim trading, and the low rate in which Christians were trading resulted in inevitable bankruptcy due to trade restrictions. A drought did off with all the livestock that was Francis' main seller, just outside the city, in 1253. As his business failed, he was still able to send off his teenage son, Edmund to be educated in Cyprus, where he was schooled in academics, and military tactics and strategem, whilst serving as a local squire, in Nicosia.

In 1258, at 22, Edmund was knighted, in Nicosia, and remained for a couple more years continuing his academics, and military prowess. In 1260, he married an English aristocrat's youngest daughter, and had a son the following year, named John. Remaining in Nicosia, serving in local administrative positions, Francis took his family to Acre in 1264. The following year, the Mameluks began to take settlements up and down the Levant starting with Caesarea, in 1265, followed by Haifa the following year, and Arsuf later in the year. The massive losses so sudden, sparked fear over remaining Christian sovereignty in the Holy Land.

In 1267, Sir Edmund was employed by Count Bohemond VI, of Tripoli, to conduct raids along the county borders against Muslim caravans, and occassional force movements. Sir Edmund, much like his great grandfather, Travers, Edmund prided himself on his
chivalry, sparing Muslim foes, if surrendering, and he always took caution to spare civilians caught in the crossroads. He gained a substantial sum in the end, after several years of taking prisoners, and selling them to the County for a small fare, which in turn, were sold back to the Mameluks for extortionate prices. Word of the loss of Antioch, the next year, in 1268, was a huge blow to Christendom's foothold in the Holy Land. It was the beginning for what would seem a very bitter end.

In 1271, the Mameluks had thundered across the County lines, and Edmund was called back with his forces, to defend Tripoli. The failed Mameluk assault on the city was a boost to the dying Crusader dream of reclaiming the Holy Land. All around the Levant, dots of Christian sovereignty were feigning into the pages of history. One by one, they were being conquered by their superior Muslim foes.

The siege of Tripoli proved to be a success for the County, they in turn were able to enact several retaliatory attacks against the Mameluks, stunned by the sudden fervour of the remaining Crusader-State resistance. Edmund was one of dozens of over a hundred knights involved in the counterattack, which met stiff resistance near Damascus, and forced a Tripolan withdrawal from their advance.
More or less, these counterattacks are loosely associated with the Ninth Crusade, which occurred at the same time. In his later recollection, Edmund would remark that it was associated to an extent, though he independently controlled his own forces under no direction further from Count Bohemund VI.

In the meantime, throughout the 1260's, Edmund's only son, John, had earned his pageship, and continued his own squiring, in Acre, while his father was on scattered campaigns, and contact for Tripoli.

In 1276, after five years of fighting since breaking the Siege of Tripoli, Edmund, and allied knights, joined forces to attack a Mameluk army north of Damascus. Outnumbered, and outsupplied, Edmund and his allies prevailed in their attack, in what ensued in a very bloody battle. Few men were spared on both sides, and surrender was an option for neither, due to personal convictions of the leaders of both sides. This was one of the last victories by the Christian forces, in the Levant. Sir Edmund left the employ of Tripoli, in 1280, and returned to Acre, after the death of his father. He remained in the city for several years, refusing to fight in the Battle of Tripoli, in 1289, which saw the end of the County. Edmund's half brother, Sir Thomas of Aleppo was killed during that battle. Edmund remained in Acre, preparing defences. John had been knighted, in 1283, and remained in the city with his father.

In 1291, Edmund took up arms, with his son, in the defence of the city. In what would ensue as a fairly quick siege, within one month the city was taken. Edmund died in the second week of the siege, after being struck by an arrow, under his right arm, which festered, and infected his right lung, and caused slow internal bleeding. He continued his fight for almost 3 days, before being bedrested. He died of his wound two weeks later, near the end of the siege. His son John, extinguished himself, and succeeded in his section of the defence, before being forced to flee the city, via ship, where he was dispatched to Ruad.

John remained in Ruad, until the fall of the fortress island, in 1303, which cost him his life. Little is known of the battle, but what is known, is he died sword in hand, or so the Muslim chroniclers had written of his finding, in an isolated tower room, having killed four Mameluk soldiers before being impaled by a spear, and subsequently by several others, leading to a quick, clean death, in what was the last bastion of Christian hope in the Levant. The Ramsey's were part of the initial Crusade to capture the Holy Land, in the close of the 11th century, and remained there, until it's inevitable end, in the beginning of the 14th century...

John had dispatched his wife, and son, to Cyprus, in 1290, before the siege of Acre, while he remained at Ruad, for the next decade. He never saw his family again, eventually dying on the ill-fated fortress island.

In 1304, a year after his father's death, Anders Ramsey, now 23, got into local politics, in Nicosia, and moved his family to Genoa, away from the happenings of the east, in 1308. He began working at the Municipal courts, in the Republic of Genoa. He temporarily held a magistrate position in the city, from 1313-1319, before being removed after it was divulged he was a closet alcoholic. He continued to drink heavily throughout his lifetime, still infuriated by his father's death, at the hands of the Muslims, following the fall of Ruad. In 1330, he committed suicide, by falling upon his dagger, after a long night of drunkenness.

Anders' only son, Urban, had joined the Genoese military, and founded a small merchantile company, during the 1330's, following his father's death. The company succeeded tremendously in the first decade, and Urban quickly ascended the ranks of the army. In 1337, Urban married a German woman, named Hanna. She came from a very powerful Germanic family, from Danzig. She had long blond hair, and deep blue eyes, which she passed to the couples only son, Toddric. Hanna supported her husband's every venture. In 1339, Hanna gave birth to Toddric. In 1343, Urban was made a Crossbowman commander, and headed his own small fleet, based out of Genoa. The fleet would become intricate during the Battle of the Bosporus, in 1354, which resulted in a stalemate, though Urban Ramsey commanded his ships well. His ships lifted the Genoese out of defeat, to what was held as a stalemate. He died during this battle, and for his efforts, a statue was erected of him, in Genoa, in later years. Sadly, during this same battle, Toddric had survived, and was rescued from the sinking vessel, in which his father was killed, and Toddric was imprisoned by the Ventian's, and huddled to Venice a year later.

Urban spent the entirety of his family's wealth (a noble gesture), to raise more men and ships for the naval forces of Genoa, many of which fought valiantly, and were lost at the Bosporus.

Toddric, was in turned, imprisoned for a term of 15 years, and released in 1369, to return home to Genoa, with a population, whom had forgotten many of the young men, who sailed east, during the Third Genoese-Venetian War, and he had returned home a man grown, with not so much as a greeting, or acknowledgement of his time served in prison, due to his participation during the battle for the Republic.

While in prison, Toddric was treated with respect, and given fairly modest treatment. He was able to study in the libary of Venice, as well as be mentored in what made famous Venice, and his native Genoa... The arts of merchanting. Toddric made the decision during this time, he would not chase ventures of blood and sword, and seek fame through commanding forces for the sake of one man's call to war, instead, Toddric would focus on re-establishing the foundation of his family's humble beginnings.. He would revert back to what lifted his family from anonymity... He would follow... A path of Gold... And power.
