    Default Titles, Offices, and Governorship

One feature I would like to see make a strong appearance in Rome II is Titles and I'm not just talking about one little panel where you can give a title to a few of your generals but something more elaborate. Rome could have some awesome title and office options with the senate, but I think governorships should be taken into account as well.

Governorships could be fairly straight forward affairs where you would give one of your generals command of a province for example Sicilia, Macedonia, Syria, etc after you take it over of course. It could make expanding interesting so you have to establish the rule of law to stabilize the newly conquered province. The Governor should be able to establish and raise a militia to handle local revolts and raise and command a legion if necessary.

The senate could be dynamic where the player has to gain influence to be able to pass new laws. Influence could be gained by the use of agents to bribe or eliminate trouble senators and successful conquest. On the other hand if you are managing your faction poorly you could lose influence and even become an enemy of the state and cause a civil war.

As for passing laws it would be neat to see the senate voting on it, maybe a little video clip to make the government feel a little more lively. I always enjoyed the the senate video clip in RTW and wish it was more of a feature in the main game. Maybe even some vid clips for election for the highest office. Speaking of which I think it would awesome to have a video clip for when you convert the republic to an empire or a nice clip when you have a new faction leader.

What about the possibility of certain titles being connected to unique general models for example Pontifex Maximus, Emperor, and Kings. These guys should certainly be represented by unique models on both the battle and campaign map. I don't know about you guys but I would love to lead my Emperor in battle and have a general that looks like he could be an Emperor or King.

Here is some RTW senate footage and a pic of the offices.

I'm all for more accurate representation of government, but I don't know if I would want to manage "passing laws" and stuff like that. When you get into that type of thing it's too complex to easily represent or manage if you represent it fully. Just let the government run itself to the greatest extent that it can. Local militias are a good idea though. There most certainly needs to be governors also. But some of this stuff might just get tossed out and governors wont need to be assigned to cities or whatever because it will simply be assumed that there are governors there with the new "province system" or whatever it is CA is doing with that.

Surely there has to be some kind of interaction with the senate? governments that do everything for the player seems pointless and boring. I'm not talking about managing every little law but only major policy reforms and to do that you should have to have some kind of influence with the senate. The life of Julius Caesar is a perfect example:

    Constitutional Reforms of Julius Caesar
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constit..._Julius_Caesar

"With a weak central government, political corruption had spiraled out of control, and the status quo had been maintained by a corrupt aristocracy, which saw no need to change a system which had made all of its members quite rich."

Crusader Kings II has an interesting system where you have to have the support from the majority of Noble to increase authority and raise taxes. It adds an element of internal strife which is severely lacking in the Total war series. This also ties in very well with intrigue and the use of agents on your OWN faction. Being able to bribe government officials or just flat out assassinate them could have some interesting consequences and potentially even lead to a civil war.

This made me think of Influence having effects that reduce penalties to lower amounts. For example, a max-influence character with traits that endear him to the commoners, placed in a city raising taxes to maximum, not only gives less unrest penalty but also increasing other effects like amplifying enemy agent's activities. So a high-influence governor would be wrestling against the schemes of a high-subterfuge agent's attempts to cause a stir amongst the populace.
Obviously this is already in RTW in a much more abstracted form, but to see it work out in more detail would be very immersive. A guy holding a title of office and traits giving him much leeway with the people will obviously have a much easier time raising higher taxes and convincing the people of its necessity than someone who can't do pubic speaking and is a poor manager.

There is a mod for EU:Rome that actually does this pretty good. You can grant characters offices if they meet certain requirements (like holding a previous, lower ranked office).

It would be a shame if they left this out, because this was a major part of the Roman society.

Dealing with the Senate should be quite difficult part of remaining a Republic while the advantage of becoming a monarchy would be able to ignore the Senate for the most part but at the cost of more widespread unrest and higher costs for army upkeep(where there is less patriotic discipline there is more corruption and the army is professional not volunteer militia).

It will be interesting what CA comes up with, in the original RTW we had the following senatorial titles:

    Pontifex Maximus
    Censor
    Consul
    Praetor
    Aedile
    Quaestor

Of course if you went dictatorship you have a couple more titles added in the mix like Magister Equitum.

It would be a crime to not have titles and an the interactive Senate does sound interesting. I would be disappointed if the senate was simply a council of nobles that just gives you a few missions. Maybe the senate could be a shadow faction that the player politically struggles with to simulate internal strife.

If they make real intriges as they have prounounced i would like to see buying me the consulship ect.
But i fear it becomes something like in shogun 2. You conquerd some provinces your prominent list is raising and the senate gives you the title blabla and the right to name a Tribun or something like this. In the end it would be just a better pope...

Proud to be a real Prussian.

I loved how Medieval I had governor titles and other you could asign (many were nation specific) to any officer/noble (every unit was led by named character with unique traits that developed along the course of the game). Ah this game was so much better (excepting grahpics) than modern total wars.
