In your EB folder there is a folder labelled "mp game edu backup" copy the Export_Descr_unit into your data folder and factions will have their own units (You will have to overwrite the current copy in there) To return to normal go back to the EB folder and go to the "sp game edu backup" and copy the Export_Descr_unit into your data folder.

    Remember to make back ups!

unless u have the trivial script installed then just go to start/programs/europa barbarorum/play multi player.

It works as follows (as Sharpe explained already), but here in detail:

EB1.2 has two export_descr_unit.txt (EDU); one for the campaing mode and one for the custom battles. These two EDUs are to be found in the folders:
    - "Rome - Total War\EB\mp game edu backup" --> for the multiplayer EDU (custom battles)
    - "Rome - Total War\EB\sp game edu backup" --> for the singleplayer EDU (campaing mode)

Using the "Trivial Script" via the "Windows Start Menu -> Programms -> Europa Barbarorum 1.1" (note: these links are also valid and present after installing EB 1.2! - ie. they work for EB1.2!), the EB's trivial script automatically copies one of the above mentioned EDUs into to following folder before launching RTW/EB:
    - "Rome - Total War\EB\Data"
Using the "Trivial Script" you don't have to do anything...

If you use a self-made shortcut or the "Run Europa Barbarorum"-short-cut (from "Windows Start Menu -> Programms -> Europa Barbarorum 1.2") you'll launch EB with the EDU that is currently in the folder:
    - "Rome - Total War\EB\Data"
Which is in most cases the sp EDU; thus you'll mostly have no or less faction units to choose from when playing custom battles. But using the mp EDU in "Rome - Total War\EB\Data" you'll have all factional units available in custom battles.

To make it simple (if not using the trivial script):
    - copy the export_descr_unit.txt from "Rome - Total War\EB\sp game edu backup" to "Rome - Total War\EB\Data" to play the campaign mode
    - copy the export_descr_unit.txt from "Rome - Total War\EB\mp game edu backup" to "Rome - Total War\EB\Data" to play the custom battle mode
    ...before launching EB.
