Okay, so I just unpacked my game to do some modding/tweaking, and the game crashes whenever I just click on the Grand Campaign button stating "Medieval 2: Total War has encountered and unspecific error and will now exit." This is making me fairly upset since I was able to play it before I unpacked it. I followed all the steps on the tutorial (deleting the two descr_geos and what not) and have scoured atlength this forum for a solution to no avail....

Yes, I noticed both the thread title and the quote read: "Medieval 2: Total War has encountered and unspecific error and will now exit." it should be "Medieval 2: Total War has encountered an unspecific error and will now exit." if a mod could fix that it would be appreciated.

No, I have not I just unpacked it, however, previous of the unpack I had a tweak installed

Is there anything in the Medieval II Total War/logs folder?

Nope, nothing at all...

go into the .cfg file and enter this:
[log]
to = logs/system.log.txt
level = * error

Then try the game again. It should record info about the crash

I have absolutely no idea. Are you launching the game using the default .exe? If you are, I would edit the one that says medieval2.preferences.

I have tried both neither work, I haven't changed the medieval2.preferences.cfg yet. I will try it in a little while though, Life is calling...

Did you delete the map.rwm and start a new campaign?

It seems to be kicking you out on the [packs/localized.pack].

You've stated that you've deleted the two relevant files associated with the unpacker. I'll only add this question - What exactly are you trying to mod? It might be a relevant question here. Good luck!
