Hi,
I had an idea while roaming the forums.
Why not have "Raze city" option after a siege?
The razed city is render unusable and gets deleted from the campaign map.
This would simulate Troy's and Carthage's Destruction.

Since victory is tied to controlling a number of provinces, this could also render the game unwinnable if the AI could do it - or if the player abuses it too much and simply removes too many easily accessible ones from the game.
Wouldnt it be better just t o maybe destroy and pillage all buildings. Wiping it off the map is a bit excessive
I have returned
No
I think there should be an option for just wholesale massacre and sacking. It would destroy every single buildings including walls and roads, kill every single living person in the settlement, and turn it into a 'ruined city' or maybe good old 'village'. Once you have chosen this option, you or the AI will have to completely rebuild the settlement from scratch (or start, whichever you prefer).
This way, it will not hurt victory conditions as the settlement will still be there, but still give the satisfaction of looting it. The settlement will be a useless burden to it's controller, and a great pain because he will have to rebuild it completely.
After all, even Romans rebuilt Carthage after some time.

I could only see this working if there were also the ability to create cities de novo on unsettled land.
^This. You can have the option to raze it, destroying every building and reducing the population next to nothing, but the city will remain in the campaign map.

The idea of razing it makes more sense then complete destruction
Deleted from the campaign map?I cannot see that added into the game. If there was a "raze feature" at most just destroy the buildings inside it.
I would settle with sacking or looting either way. However, I would like to have the ability to exterminate the populace. For roleplaying, to instill fear, etc. But that is a whole nother subject.
i say just bring a but-load of catapults and fling fireball after fireball into the city and watch it burn. Then just repair the stuff you destroyed on the campaign map or build new things in its place.
Deleting cities from the campaign map won't be happening. I just cant see how with regions without cities would work. Maybe a heavier form of razing will be implented though. I can see them adding it to the game because of what rome did to carthage.
you forgot corinth
This would require the ability to build cities, which would then make us like Civilization, but with Total War's way of doing things, provinces would be so messed up it would be impossible.

The only way I see this to work is that you could rework the loot option into having a great effect like destroying all the buildings in the city and bringing it back to a village or a small town with just a couple of people there. It's the only way this might work in the TW series, as far as I can tell.
RTWRM - back to basics
Only way I could see it working for TW map on current engine is after a city is destroyed there is a highlighted map in that province of potential replacement sites that won't screw up something else. With perhaps only 50-70 walled cities in RTW2 I can actually see this being possible though I really doubt CA will approve the extra work. Its not like Civ where the map is flexible enough you can place a city almost anywhere. Also it would be limited to 1 off so if you raze a city in a province you will have to rebuild it somewhere else in the same province. Hopefully the 'raze' button would give a % of the sack value of a city but cost maybe 10,000 or something large to re-establish a small city elsewhere.
