I am a stats junkie. I love to compare things like GDP, Manufactured goods, Trade deficits/surpluses, casualties in a battle, a war, for all time.
I think stats add so much context to a strategy game. They provide that extra layer of immersion, the ability for a player to see progress on many different fronts.
In total war the name of the game is a-historical outcomes. We play these game because they are fun and entertaining, but really, the deeper gameplay we seek, (I think) is the comparison we get to make when we play vs how things played out historically. This comparison drives the a historical interactions with the AI and the narratives in our heads.
Total war has always had un-interesting stats.
Battles won/lost
Territories conquered/lost
etc
I for one would love to see Rome get a little more creative and abstract with these stats.
Directly we could see comparison of casualties we have suffered/inflicted. Stats that detail a war we are currently in.
Indirectly we could have things like GDP, population, how much trade goods we ship, how much manufacturer goods we ship, how much crops we grow, etc. These abstract stats could provide a richer context to how we play and better feedback for actions such as; trade deals, farm upgrades, road upgrades etc.
I hope, stats become a bigger part of the picture in total war.
