I just returned from viewing the second Pirates of the Caribbean film, and it scrapes me barnacles and shivers me timbers! Such a fine display makes me be longin' fer the spray of the sea and the smell of gunpowder on me poop deck! T'was a fine film fer us aspiring buccaneers!

Translation: I just got back from watching Dead Man's Chest, and I liked it a lot.

EDIT: If you want to post spoilers, type them in white text so people don't inadvertently have the film spoiled.

It was pretty good (I liked the focus on nautical myths) but it seemed to pull away from the seriousness of the first one, being to comical/fantasy for my tastes.

agreed. Deads man's chest was ok, but the first one was much better IMO. There was just something about this one that didn't quite click with me.

Saw it at midnight, and it was pretty good. That said, it was long and too obviously geared towards a sequel.

Well, they filmed Dead Man's Chest and the third movie concurrently. I would expect to see the final installment by next summer at the latest.

By the way, I'm so glad they kept the midget pirate on. When I saw the first movie I was thinking, "Okay, they've got the parrots, the monkey, the wooden prosthetics, but something's missing... wait, there's a MIDGET PIRATE! This movie is now an officially cool pirate film!"

It will be just as overrated and overhyped as the first. Don't get me wrong. The first one was pretty good but it wasn't the hit everyone made it seem to be. Just like Napoleon Dynamite. I only went to see the first one because of,

her and that is why I will see this one.

I saw it two days ago. Yes before the midnight sneak review. It was ok. The specail effects were dazziling. I really like Davey Jones. But there was not enough of this

or Jack Sparrow for that matter. The part with the natives was really funny. I enjoyed the first one a lot more. This one truly comes out as what it is. Half a movie even though its almost three hours long.

I really liked it. We've had a bit of a dry spell with movies, but with Superman Returns and Pirates 2 in the theaters, the summer is beginning to perk up.

I think it's not really fair to judge it as "half a movie" - of course it is, they probably couldn't have a) crammed all the story into one and b) made a lot of money without doing three movies. I didn't like the cliffhanger ending (I would like a more standalone movie like Pirates 1 was), but it did a grand old job building up for the next movie and was a funny, action-packed and slightly-too-long movie in its own right.

Spoiler for Don't clicky unless you watchy watchy!
I really liked how Commodore Norrington looks in the movie ... a beard suits him ... but anyways, it's kind of sad they tried to do the "he's dead but no he's not" thing with Jack Sparrow, because with movies that are so centered on one character, everybody knows he's going to be alive and kicking in the third film. I really liked the end though, not a face I expected to see!

highlight text to see my opinion of Dead Man's Chest

It was an okay movie, the Kraken scenes were cool, wonderful CGI on the Flying Dutchman crew and on Davy Jones. Though, I would of preferred a happier ending, i.e: One with Jack Sparrow not being eaten by a gigantic ocean squid-octopus monster thingy.

I thought it was o.k., just wasn't as entertaining as the first one. There was also too much comedy. Like, every single other scene would have Jack in some crazy slapstick comedy situation.

I enjoyed it; however it was a tad too long though. Depp was hilarious as always.

Its better when they are not trying to make him funny. Like in the first one.

Just got back from seeing it a few hours ago. I thought that it was pretty good, not great. It was entertaining on the whole, although it felt like I was watching some kind of explosion/CGI porn for the most of it. It's obvious that Bruckheimer's influence was heavy here. Similar to King Kong, it was like bearing witness to a special effects orgy.

Jack Sparrow's a good character in his own right. He borders on over-the-top cheese already, and plunging him into one slapstick comedic act after the next is both completely unfunny and unnecessary, and almost ruined it for me.

I found it strange for a movie that contains so many violent/grotesque scenes and implicit sexual suggestions to contain physical humor that's obviously meant for children. I also found the number of references to the first movie/ride tiresome. It's cute to hear about a ship's lack of rum, and see jailed pirates trying to get dogs to bring them keys the first time, but any more than that is just gratuitous. I did enjoy Norrington's character though, and was surprised and pleased to see him, as well as many of the cast members of the previous movie. Usually in trilogies like this, minor characters are quickly forgotten and shuffled under the rug in subsequent movies. Not so here.

The most annoying thing about Dead Man's Chest was the holding pattern that it was stuck in. Some movie trilogies handle the second movie well. In (Star Wars) The Empire Strikes Back and (Lord of the Rings) The Two Towers, charcters develop and the plot is actually moved forward. I felt that the sole purpose of this movie was to set up the third.

The rousing musical score helps make the film though. The Pirates theme is fantastic, as always, and I found myself humming it outside the theater.

I know that it may sound that I didn't like the movie, but overall, it wasn't bad. If you liked the first, then you'll definitely like the second. Just don't expect to feel satisfied after seeing it. I'm hungry for the third movie, not full after this one, as I'm sure that the producers intended.

His introduction to this sequel was quite memorable, though.

Don't highlight the text below unless you want to read spoilers.

His intro was just perfect. Shooting that crow from inside the coffin sparked laughs and cheers in the theater. It captured the very essence of Jack Sparrow.

It was a disney movie. How do you think they get the parents to put up with watching the old animated movies as much as the kids want to when they get it on video? Disney has this down to a science.

I thought it was good, but confusing if you didnt remember much of the first one. Characters reintroduced at random times can confuse you if you dont know what part they play.
