How to make start 2 factions as allies?

As per title I want to modify the game so that 2 certain factions start as ally.
Does anybody know which file should I modify and the change I should apply?

You just have to edit descr_strat.txt file.

Now, change the "at_war_with" entries to "allied_with" for both factions you want to tie.
Remember, you have to do it for both factions. In example, let's say i want starting alliance between Poland and Hungary, i have to put both Poland allied_with Hungary and Hungary allied_with Poland.

Well, you may want to change the faction standings as well, you can do (edit) it a bit upper (same file). Values are obvious 1.00 is perfect and -1.00 is abysmal.

For example, if I wanted Jerusalem and the Papal States to start as allies, I would add:
faction_relationships jerusalem, allied_with papal_states
faction_relationships papal_states, allied_with jerusalem

I might also want to change the starting faction standing. As you can see in the faction_standing section, Jerusalem and the Papal States start out with 0.4 relations with each other. That is on a scale from -1 (worst relations) to 1 (best relations).

For some reason it doesn't work for me... I've edited the file properly (added the alliance/at war for both factions) and ran the SS setup after that, but no effect when I try to start a new campaign

Heh, that's the reason. You have to do that (edit the file) after SS setup.
Setup will always replace edited descr_strat file (and many others like EDU or EDB) with the default one.

Yeah I know that, I edited the file in campaign folder so it should overwrite the file in world folder. But, the problem is solved, was caused by a simple typing error which I was unable to spot for some reason

maybe they need to be separate, put 1 allied_with 1, not 1 with 2. worth a try.

a question i have, from what i know when i just viewed this section of some mod, also i think i edited some stuff once, that only 1 line is needed, just A allied_with B, the B with A is not necessary. same for at_war_with . does anyone know? too lazy to test myself

If you have alliances at the beginning it will include trade rights, however AFAIK you can not have just trade rights.
