Default So, I reinstalled Shogun 2 to fix the blood pack bug...

... and now all is perfect, no bugs, no glitch, now the land is covered in candy! And little angels fly around me while I spread fun and magic around! There's not eve bad game performance, ... actually no performance at all...

The game won't start. I verified the cache, check if the graphic card drivers are update, restarted the machine, de-fragmented the game, disabled UAC, the antivirus, ran Steam and Shogun 2 as administrator... all the time it just stop working before loading the intro.... so yeah....

    Steam is GREAT

My condolences Bro, I can definitely relate. I have had nothing but trouble with them from day one. I wouldn't wish steam on anybody.

Apparently they expect me to verify the damn cache several times, each time I do that a chunk of the game gets downloaded (but added, so it's not replacing anything). This morning it was a 5 gigas, now it's a 1 giga part... I wasn't able to play shogun 2 this weekend. You know, if I had a physical installation this wouldn't be happening...

I bought a physical installation for both S2 and FOTS, and it still took me a whole weekend to be able to play. I've had to reinstall a few times, and even if I save the patches and use the disk, it takes two hours for steam to do it's part.

I bought a physical installation for S2, and simply had to pick up FOTS at the steam summer sale (A couple of weeks ago.) it took me a fair wack to get it able to play. I have significant unease, of whatever untoward nuisance is going to doom me to your plight.

I have not nor will I display any enthusiasm when it comes to downloading massive gigflops of ‘stinging nettle moonshine.’

That's because the physical discs still require our beloved Steam to do anything, and in theory it should spare you from the heavy download, in practice I heard of people which steam still insisted in downloading the whole damn game before begging installation, apparently just for the lulz despite people having the disks.... so yeah... Steam is great

Sounds to me like you've got some sort of data corruption.. I have no problems with Steam and Shogun 2. Not to say you don't, but try checking your harddrive for errors.

Thanks DavidtheDuke. It turns out it was some sort of freakish error with the windows registry left from the previous installation of Shogun 2. I solved this, Monday, from my office and Team Viewer after spending my weekend not playing the game and doing not much else. My gf was at her parent's house, my best buddy is on Argentina on a trip and the rest of the guys where missing in action for the weekend...

At least I got a really nice meal of spaghetti with squids and shrimps!

Worst thing that ever happened for games and gamers. You can't play one game while downloading another and you even have to inform them that you want to play your sp game offline.

Why on Earth would I want to log into Steam to tell Steam that I'd like to play my bought and paid for game offline? But I'm forced to.

And wo betide me if I haven't informed Steam of my intentions to play offline and I lose my internet connection. Then I can't play anything at all because Steam alone prevents me playing the game I paid for. It's a disgusting and disgraceful situation.

Talk about keeping tabs on people.

P.S -I'm sorry for your troubles mate, I hope you get it sorted.
PPS. I'm glad you got it sorted.

Steam is exactly the reason why people are now pirating these games hand over fist. I really can't see me buying Rome II if it's on the Steam(ing pile) platform.

An easy way around this is to put in an entry in your firewall to block Steam so it will always think you have no internet connect and will default to offline. When you do want to go online to download a patch, or play multiplayer just temporarily allow it access again. Very easy to do. Hope that helps some and I hear your frustration with Steam!

Actually, you can. It will pause your download when starting a game, but if you alt-tab out, you can unpause it and still play.

I reinstalled to fix the blood pack glitch and it did not work; however, I have the added bonus of random performance problems I did not have in the past. My units will start "stuttering" Napoleon style from time to time when there's a lot of them on the field at once (FPS is still stable but the units themselves stutter) which never happened before I reinstalled.

Well, it may not be the exact reason, but sure is not helping at all. I was really tempted to go out and buy a pirated copy of the game this weekend*, out of despite for Steam.... but I refrained myself of doing so.

Thanks to all that accompanied me in my rant!

    * Here is pretty easy and cost around $5, which is stupid when you think that putting a little more you can buy the original game on a sale, besides I highly distrust pirated software.

The temptation is always strong, especially when our calls for a none-Steam option are constantly denied.
