Yep, I have to agree. The only reason I bought M2TW was because of the mods. I had actually boycotted the game upon its release, ignorant for years of how good the game really was and how drastic the mods were.
I have still yet to buy Empire, Napoleon and Shogun (for myself, I have bought them as gifts for others). Though I am considering Empire for the Great War mod. I bought Mount&Blade for its mods as well, though the base games are fantastic.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm sure no one at Creative Assembly had any idea about DayZ until now, or modding in general.
Look man.. the developers at CA fully understand that the core of their fan base wants more modding. They've mentioned and acknowledged it in several interviews and are holding a modding summit to discuss the future of it.
That's more than you can say for a good majority of other developers, who won't even talk openly on the subject, other than to say "NO". It's obvious they are working on it, we just aren't privy to all the details. For good reason too, because if they even slightly mention they are working on modding tools and then don't deliver because of time/financial constraints then people will flip.
Making a bunch of useless posts which don't add anything constructive to the issue isn't helping anyone. If anything its detrimental to the threads that actually raise legitimate concerns or have suggestions/wishlist. You know by the people who actually spend the time to mod the game and know what they're talking about?
These words were repeated since the days of Empire, do excuse those who are skeptical.
They said one of the goals of the modding summit is to show modders how "hard" it is to make the tools, so the only thing I expect from the summit is "WELL, SEE HOW HARD IS IT TO MAKE THEM? NOW YOU CAN EXCUSE US FOR THE LACK OF TOOLS!"
Hopefully I'm wrong...![]()
Skeptical of what? To my knowledge they've never said they were working on any tools or promised any tools. They released the battle map editor which, even with it's faults, is a step in the right direction. The campaign map is another beast all together. Just go look into the thread under ETW modding where those poor guys, all of which smarter than you and I on this subject, are trying to decipher it yet have only been able to add a village on the map after all this time.
You can interpret the purpose for the modding summit any way you'd like I suppose. Although I prefer some of other ludicrous theories better, like it's just a big PR stunt to make people believe they are working on, or care about modding. People are just too cynical for their own good sometimes, but we'll see what they have to say or don't say here shortly.
they are not worried about sales im sure the rts community isn't to large but be assured that every person who is into rts games will have there hands on a total war title in there life time

It is considerably difficult to just design modding tools for the engine. I doubt they're going to want to spend the resources towards making modding tools for an engine they may not stick to forever, even though they've stated they wish to stay with Warscape of as long as possible.
IMO, the best mod-friendly action would be to simply go for a new engine entirely, one that is more capable of creating tools for modders to use. Suffice to say, the decision for using Warscape definitely did not have "modding community concerns" in consideration.
This may come as a shock but believe it or not the marketing folks at CA and Sega probably know what sells their games better than any of us do.
Op!!! Why you not say Skyrim!!!!!!
But yeah this tread is useless, and its only one boring mod to one cheap freaking game.
Wait! now its Saints row there is bests seller!! What does it mean!

u're right but we should also pay attention to other elements
why Kingdoms is the only total war no more in steam list? maybe modding is useless after some years?
It's impossible today buying kingdoms in a shop
Yeps, bought Arma 2 two weeks ago just for DayZ. Great game ...or should i say mod?
Only played a few training missions in Arma 2 to get a grip on controls.
I'm sure Arma 2 is a great game but i'm more of the Fallout/Left 4 Dead typo games when it comes to shooters. I love post-apocalyptic feeling to them....so DayZ was what triggered me to buy Arma 2. And I highly recommend it!
A thread such as this is destined to get off-topic and move away from R2TW, also I'm pretty sure the people over at CA know what they are doing.
