The Town Criers of the Realm



Bells are the main medium of telling time and making announcements. A Common Bell is rung to summon civic meetings, courts, and as an alarm in case of fire or attack. The town crier rings a hand bell when he walks throughout the town declaiming news and proclamations. The criers are the main source of news for the city dwellers. They also have the task of ringing their bells to solicit prayers in memory of people who had paid for the privilege...

The Criers then post the law itself

All Lords may create titular titles for their children to highlight their positions with fiefs. A Duke may create Earldoms, Baronies and Knighthoods for his male children, Earls may create baronies and knighthoods for their male children and Barons may give knighthoods to their male children. These titles confer only dignity and no added income or men at arms, and can be revoked by either the father or the King at will.

As His Majesty's last command, the new King of England to be crowned is Richard of Lancaster, a cousin of the former King Henry II Plantagenet. By order of the Lord Chancellor, Geoffrey Beckett, on behalf of His Majesty, King Richard I, all nobles are hereby ordered to Greenwich to swear fealty to the new King. An alternative is to send a member of the family as a representative for the lord of their lands to swear fealty if the present lord is unavailable due to the war in Ireland or other personal reasons. These Tumultuous Times!

Europe is in turmoil, with England itself being effected in particular. In Ireland, Brian O'Connor, the elected high king, has declare war on the English and makes for the English territories in Ireland, preparing for reconquest. In Scotland, James I declares war on England in support of his ally, Dauphin Charles of France, who has recently been crowned "Rightful king of France" at Rheims, and encourages the Tolousan rebellion while he musters forces of his own. England hangs in the balance, and now it is time for brave deeds to preserve England.
