What is Going On??

Alright I have high speed internet and the works, my brand new top of the line computer came in yesterday and I installed empire and shogun 2 in minutes, Empire installed an update in several hours which was weird that it took so long but its ok, Shogun 2 on the other hand has been updating since 5 pm yesterday evening!! It's 8:40 am now and it says it'll be another 3 hours!! What is going on?? I checked the downloading rates and steam keeps fluctuating between 383 kb/s to 75 kb/s why is it fluctuating so much? Is there anything I can do to make my internet work the way it's supposed to?

It's a Steam problem. Change servers.

There's an option to change download servers, you might get lucky.

The weekend tends to be a busy time for downloading, you might get stuck in a cue before you can really download.

I think it took me almost 3 days to download Shogun2 at 150 kb/s.

I gotta say Steam is officially the worst thing since Hitler, I've tried over 20 servers with no luck and I can't stand it anymore, I'm not installing the game it is simply updating it, it should not take this friggen long (it still says 3 hours left btw) to update a goddam game, Steam needs to fix their cus this is ridiculous

Well not to be too blunt. Have you even looked at steam in the last week? There has been massive Sales on games, people are buying THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of games daily, and downloading said games. There even a neat little thing that shows all users on Steam, which is almost a constant 3million people. Now even if 1 in 5 people buy 1 single semi-new game, which is over 20GB, what more do you expect from Steam?

Theres only so much bandwidth, and yes maybe they shouldve gotten a bit more, alot more, whichever. Still doesnt change the fact theres easily hundreds of thousands of games being downloaded off of their servers. All I can suggest, is play something as its downloading. When you launch a game through steam though, it will stop your downloads - remember to tab out back into steam and resume them.

I feel your pain mate, FOS took 4 hours or so to install, and I thought that was bad enough. Sorry to hear you having problems with STEAM.
