Default Poll: Which broad areas of TW gameplay need improvements the most?

To make Rome the game you want it to be, which gameplay aspects do you think deserve some extra attention, as compared with the previous TW titles you've played?

Note, it's a multiple choice poll, but there's no point clicking all unless you're happy with the balance as it is.

Battles! Graphics, campaign, and roleplaying elements have all improved but battles are not that different from Shogun. Formations, better BAI, more terrain variety, more complex interaction between weapon type, formation type, stamina, and armor would make battles much more interesting.

Scale is not really a gameplay element though. It's not something you do.

    That's what she said!

On topic: I want more complicated economics.

You can build a level 2 market in S2 and money just trickles in.

only 2 people so far for character development? I'd love some crusader kings 2 style character system.

Character development has taken many steps back. It is the key to rpg elements and needs to be upgraded, detailed and realistic. Variety in traits= a better game overall, imo. Diplomacy can have even more options. And, above all, Campaign Strategy improved very much with Shogun 2, but it can be even better, to the point that everything you choose, matters and will continue to matter in the future.

And, refering to the campaign, it is a good thing there will be no Realm Divide in Rome 2. Unless Germans, Seleucids, Sarmatians, Indians all make an alliance to conquer Rome because "they have how many settlements? Attack them!!!!!!"

Play 20 minutes of any Paradox game like EU III and you'll know exactly what TW games need: real diplomacy, political intrigue, complex (but easy to automanage/not micro managed to death) economic systems.

Other than that, they need to keep to historical authenticity and leave this red team/blue team (and green, and purple, and yellow, etc) vanilla color scheme behind forever.

Ahh.. I can't pick just one, they all need a huge rework.

In RTW2 they should be able to make the unit standards stand out quite well and also historically for many factions- I'd much prefer a distinctive standard as well as a brighter border around the unit card than green highlit units when selected and especially atrocious color coded uniforms like its a football match.

Character development! A little more randomization of personalities too.

    I say diplomacy.

The problem is that you can't form a strong alliance like there is between the three Roman families, before they start killing each other.

You always get betrayed from your ally. It would be nice if you could have better alliance with some faction.

I don't see how you can make fun character development since by mid campaign you will probably have a dozen or more generals. At that point things start to bog down even if initially fun. Unless it is only available for some characters and not others which could be good or bad depending on the design. IE- it only begins to be available for characters once they reach a certain level of importance- for Romans only when attaining rank of Legatus or Consul perhaps. Earlier ranks are given random traits and set bonus on attaining more experience.

Diplomacy. It's seriously underlooked at by CA in previous titles. It needs way more realism.

Diplomacy/politics is combined to me. Better reasons to go to war or make allies that AI sometimes follows would be nice. I think battles need the most work as they are the aspect least changed from Shogun (disregarding the graphics) and thinking of the mechanics.

Personally I've always found the battles to be relatively advanced compared to other aspects of the game. Economics, can be kept quite simple as far as I'm concerned, without upsetting the game balance. I would like to see things like character development and politics, but I don't think they're a priority. So, my votes goes to diplomacy and strategic gameplay. On the campaign map, I'd like these things to be represented in more detail, to the point where, once a battle starts, I can see those aspects reflected in what environment I'm in, what state my troops and the enemy's are in, who my allies are and how trustworthy they are.

Everything there except diplomacy. Not because i think it dont needs improvement but because i basically gave up on that. Lets face it, the game is called Total War and in the end you have to crush em all anyway.
