    Default unspecified error

    When I open the TATW campaign, playing with any of the factions for a few seconds of the game it gives the following error: Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit. I use Windows XP sp 2, M2TW + kingdoms (British Campaign) + patch 1.5 and 3.0 +3.1 +3.2 TATW installed. I've deleted map.rwm, descr_geography_new.db, descr_geography_new.txt strings.bin and files and also have disabled daylight saving time.
    There follows the error log.

    Open your TATW CFG.file, which is in ..\SEGA\M2TW\mods\Third_Age_3\, and type in this marked by red colour:

    [io]
    file_first = true
    disable_file_cache = true

    Disable Advisor in the game, disable autosave in medieval 2.preference CFG.file, which is in ..\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\, open it by right mouse click and either EDIT or Open with- Notepad, and find this:

    auto_save = 1, change 1 to 0, exit and save. I don`t know do win xp users have virtual store( think not) but try this if u have it: delete the Third age 3 folder in your virtual store, If you dont know where to find it here it is:
    C:\Users\[User name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods.

    Hi I'm new in this forum.
    I have installed TATW 3.0 on Windows 7 and when trying to play a new custom battle I got the very same error message.
    I've tried the solutions in post #2 with no positive result.
    Is there any chance to get a solution when applying the suggestions in following posts ?
    Many thanks

    Welcome to the TWC forums! Have u tried disabling daylight savings? For battle crashes disable daylight savings (Using Windows 7: Control panel > Date and time > Change time zone > uncheck "Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time"). And have u disabled UAC before installing TATW? If not, u have to disable it. Follow this guide http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...59#post8287059 and apply step 3 in section `How to fix it`. U have to reinstall TATW, uninstall it by using Control Panel Uninstall program, after that, delete Third_Age_3 folder in C:\ ..\SEGA\Medieval 2 Total War\mods and in virtual store C:\Users\[user name or your PC`s name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Medieval 2 Total War\mods (if u can`t find it, then it is hidden, so follow this How to Unhide hidden folders on Windows: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...59#post8287059). After deleting these Third_Age_3 folders( if there were any), and disabling UAC, click on TATW 3.0 part 1 of 2 installer, when it asks u where to install it, if u know the CORRECT path where u installed Medieval 2 Total War and it is the same as the installer points u to, default install path C:\ Program Files (x86)\ SEGA\ Medieval 2 Total War, so I don`t know is it the same for u too), then procced with installing. If u installed in another place, then browse the installer to the Medieval 2 Total War folder. Then install TATW 3.0 part 2 of 2 using the SAME installing path, and I would advise u to install TATW 3.1 patch (using the SAME installing path ofcourse) and then try the game does it work, and can u open campaigns. If TATW 3.1 works, procced with installing TATW 3.2 patch (using the SAME installing path ofcourse).
    Hope this helps

    What do u mean by this `only seven`? I presume english is not your native language. Tell me, do u have a Steam version of M2TW or non-steam?

    English is not my native language. The seven refers to windows 7. In xp does not have as TATW run as administrator. The version of M2tw is non-steam

    Your account may not actually have administrator rights on your PC. You need access to an account with administrator privileges. Look here for some tips:http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_get_admi...indows_xp.html

    Try lowering your graphics settings in Video Options, does your PC match the minimum conditions(specifications) for playing MTW2? Upgrading your drivers perhapse can help.

    I just can`t remember anything els than wrong install paths, try to uninstall again Third Age TW using Control Panel- Uninstall a program, and after that delete the Third_Age_3 folder in ..SEGA\Medieval II TW\mods. And this time look at the install paths carefully, it has to install the game to where your Medieval II Total War and Kingdoms is installed( default path for win 7 and vista is C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\ Medieval II Total War\ mods, I don`t have XP so check where u installed Medieval II TW and Kingdoms, if it is in a different location then browse the TATW installer to there).

    In my installation, in the \ SEGA \ Medieval II Total War \ mods are installed: british_isles and Third_Age_3 in separate folders. So I guess this is also not the problem.

    No,that should look like that, can you edit( or open with Notepad) your TATW CFG.file which is in \mods\Third_Age_3 and see does it look like this( this is not the whole text which has to be there):

    [features]
    editor = true
    mod = mods/Third_Age_3

    [io]
    file_first = true

    [log]
    to = logs/system.log.txt
    level = * error
    ;level = * trace

    [video]
    ;windowed = true
    ;movies = false
    show_banners = 0

    [misc]
    show_hud_date = true
    ;bypass_sprite_script = 1
    ;rebuild_geography_db = true

    [game]
    unlimited_men_on_battlefield = 1
    no_campaign_battle_time_limit = 0
    unit_size = huge
    advisor_verbosity = 0
    ;event_cutscenes = 0
