Default Possible Credit Card Fraud from Steam?

Hi everyone, I am not sure if this is the best forum to ask this question, but I would rather get some initial ideas from you knowledgeable folks here.

So recently, I bought Napoleon Total War-Imperial Eagle Pack, Rome Total War, Medieval 2 Total War on the Steam Sale on the 18th of this month. It was a total of $5.78. I then received the games, but have not downloaded it yet.

However, the next day I found out that my father's credit card had a $74 dollar charge from Blizzard Entertainment Online Store, I believe someone bought Diablo 3. No one in my family bought this game, so it was from some external source. Soon after, my father contacted the bank, and he was refunded, and the credit card was blocked

I did not think Steam was responsible, though the timing was sort of suspicious, but my father has not received any notification of a transaction from Steam even now. He should have received a notification for any transaction before the 20th.

So my question is: is my steam account compromised? Or is it some problem on my father's end.

I have scanned my computer for viruses, there are none, and I have not done anything to compromise the security of my steam account, such as create obvious passwords, or give it away.

My advice is not from a professional but just my opinion on the matter.

If Steam are responsible and charged you for this then they did so by accident and not on purpose, have you contacted them about the matter yet? See if they own up to it.

If they decline any acknowledgement then you should demand a receipt from them so you can investigate. The receipt might give you some answers to conclude this money issue.

I doubt it was somebody else who hacked your account because if they did, they probably would have caused more hassle and bought hundreds of pounds worth of games because they'll know that you would have changed your password once they've made you alert.

In future if you are old enough, do get your own debit card, so it saves the hassle of bringing in your father and risking his money.

Thank you for your advice, I have created a Steam Support Account, and have asked them about this issue. I will reply once an answer is given.

ALSO: It says on Steam Support, on the article about Unrecognized charges, that:

"We will also ban your payment account from our system so that it cannot be used again. We take fraud very seriously and will permanently ban not only your card from our system but any and all Steam accounts that are tied to the fraudulent activity or disputed transactions"

Quite worrying, as I would rather not have my account -and games that I have- banned.

In full context, it sounds like it is optional and would be used if someone used the card fraudulently and you wanted to block the card from being used with them. If it is a problem on their end with the charge, the card shouldn't be banned.

I saw this thread title while overhearing my coworker in the next cube calling his credit card company about fraudulent activity and went ahead and checked my bank account. Charge from Valve....charge from Valve...charge from Valve...

I thought "What the hell? I didn't make all of these purchases?"

Yes I did. Stupid Steam sale; I already forgot half of the games I bought.

Yes, Steam have contacted me. They just told me to contact Blizzard about the charge. I asked for any more information from Steam (like their records/charges from me) but I doubt I'll get any further information.

Luckily, nothing suspicious has happened since the incident, so should I be very concerned in the future?

@Otherdude, Nope, no one in my family bought Diablo 3, but we received a charge for it

Sorry bud! Yeah, I wasn't saying you probably bought it; I scared myself by forgetting about what I bought. Now it kind of feels like Christmas.

This is why you don't link your credit card to paypal.. I just transfer money across to paypal whenever I want to purchase something.
