    Default A Deeper Level Game

I always thought it would be interesting to add a new dimension to these mega games.

    City building.

The idea of building cities to solidify your regions: politically, economically, militarily and religiously would add a greater and new dimension to the game rather than just the usual hack and slash.

I forgot to mention that this could possibly be an option that could be turned off if you don't want to go to the city building map.

I always loved the Stronghold series and it's building and warfare but it just doesn't fit in Total War.

I've seen Stronghold but never played it. CaesarIV is basically what I was thinking of.

I'd also rather fight my own naval battles too.

Well, I think it could be made to fit Total War if some of the "conventional" features of city building was eliminated. First of all, you shoulnd't be moving around withthe camera on the battle map, place walls, and see them magically erect in seconds. Instead, when buying an upgrade as in previous games, a 2D city map should appear, making you able to place the building in the city. In this way you could place expensive buildings at the center of the city, so they would not be damaged by catapults in a siege. But even more fun could be to built walls, so that you, as the leader, could take advantage of the hopefully unique terrain in every city, making walls connect with rivers, taking advantage of hills and so forth.

Finally this would also make every city completely unique as the AI should be able to built its own cities like the player. However whether it would work or not is hard to say, only time, and the final product will tell.

I would much rather see a deeper level of diplomacy and political intrigue. Like that featured in Paradox games (especially Crusader Kings 2). I would love the ability to push claims on disputed territory, interject in successions, forge alliances -- that actually hold true instead of backstabbing -- where you can call upon your allies to help in a war, etc. It would be cool to have some minor city building I suppose, but I feel it would detract too much from the overall strategic element.

A game where the player had to govern different size Roman settlements, from a latifundia at the smallest to, I guess, Rome at the max would be interesting and fun. However, such a game would have to relegate war to a more or less uncontrollable event, dependent not on tactical skill, but on economic and diplomatic skill. Most Roman settlements were not self sufficient for their defense (had they been, the empire would not have fallen!) and more than our settlements are - even New York, for instance, could not avenge 9-11 alone.

I want to see agents, retainers, heroes, faction leaders, heirs, rebels, all have much more depth of character.

Nothing is more boring than being able to predict what they're going to tell you in a dialog.

I was thinking of the same thing. But I'd rather have them get the current features right before they start adding more stuff like this.

Doesn't even need to be as in depth as city building games.

I think they could write more dialog.

I have allways wanted a city builder. It would add a cool dimension to the game. I think a detailed one might be difficult, but just being able to place your buildings would be an amazing feature, it would really make you feel like you are designing your own empire!

Why not present the player with the kind characters they would interact with regularly?
