Default Gaidin for civitates (Patron: Virgil)

    Patron: Virgil (formerly 1hHoplite)

The forums, and the threads therein, have their own currents and moods. Often, these can only be spotted through experience. While a specific Civitate might only have extended experience with two or three of the sub-communities, they can often spot the mood of a thread fairly quickly.

With this in mind, the civitate's implied ability isn't really to argue well, so much as it is to be able to spot the symbolic 'line in the sand'. He can avoid crossing it, and advise others as to when they are pushing against it. The educated guess as to whether a sarcastic comment will be taken in jest or in seriousness can often be depended on to act accordingly. The catch is that there are many people who know this information who are not Civitates, but the ability to depend on them may or may not be there.

The idea of this Civitate user group leads to a highly functional, 'non-technical' guide to the community. For technicalities and specific consequences, an administrator or moderater will still be preferred of course. The method of 'recruitment' also leads to a well-structured way to get questions answered, as a 'ancestral tree' is naturally formed as the ranks get filled. If one does not know the answer, there is a quick and easy reference to the previous generation up, and further up until the board officials themselves are reached if necessary.

Having defined the percieved responsibilities of the Civitate, the privileges must also be considered. The two most glaringly obvious are the Symposivm(spelling preserved) and the Cvria(spelling preserved). Access is granted to these grounds upon being approved. The Symposivm in and of itself is a public general forum with private posting rights for the Civitates, convenient and usable. The meat of the priveleges comes in with the Cvria. With posting access comes the ability to ring in on nominations, and other official matters of the community.

All are responsiblities worth carrying out and privileges worth putting to good, legitimate use.

People are normally warned to steer clear, "only the bravest dare enter" type of thing, and yet, when posting in the Abortions thread, that is where I found him, posting away.He demonstated to me, both through pm's, MSN, and his posts on the site, that he is a dedicated forum poster, and would be a welcome addition to the curia. He is the kind of poster that wont take crap from others, he knows when someone doesn't have any bite behind their bark and will call them on it. When looking back at his previous posts, you see that he really hasn't posted in anything but TD topics - especially the extremely controversial ones.
Although some of his posts may seem a little rough at times, they are never a mere troll or flame. They are always in response to the argument and not the person. Some of you Councilmen may find those posts to be unacceptable, but those are the kinds of posts you will find in all such threads. By simply reading his paragraph, one can see that he is well able to communicate his thought intelligently quite easily. And so, I ask the council, please do not deny Gaidin the right to enter into the Curia, a place where he may argue with other intelligent people and will not have to express himself the way he is forced to in the pit. Please allow him to enrich the curia and to enrich the rest of the site as well. Please, make Gaidin a Civitates.

Can someone sit and have a good look at his post quality for me. I was originally going to patronise him, but in the end passed him onto virgil who also had put an offer in. Now I originally offered a long time back and when I came to look through his posts I got serious doubts about his post quality of late so I fobbed him off claiming high workload.

I randomly selected about twelve posts maybe up to fifteen, can anyone allay my doubts (excessive use of **** ****** ****'s I feel maybe I am wrong)?

No from me. Posts do not stand out, at least not in the way I think they should. Also overly fond of the letters 'wtf.' I presume he has a dodgy keyboard.

No, no, no. Borderline posts too much, for a start. Low-quality. Too abrasive and aggressive. Too much pushing of the rules.
