    Default PLEASE re-integrate the SETTLEMENT VIEWER feature!!

    One of my favorite features back in Rome Total War was the ability to see the developing progress of small towns into magnificent cities with the Settlement Viewer

    I was kind of disappointed when this feature became obsolete in successive games - to the point where it became unnecessary in Shogun 2

    Now in this game since settlements become more individualized, I think settlement viewer will be much more anticipated - a greatly appreciated icing on the cake!


    Oh yeah, and we can kind of plan our defense strategy with the settlement viewer too.

    We talked about this already but yes i agree this feature is very much missed by many me included.

    Have they mentioned anything about building defensive structures within your city yet? Im sure their will be like almost every other TW game. But with the possible City Viewer, would there be any chance to be able to individually select where to place structures?


    Long additional nonsense following:

    One of my FAVORITE games of all time was Caesar II back in 1995 or something. It had the classic city building genre all Caesar game successors had and spin offs, but my favorite part was warfare naturally. In all other Caesar games and spin offs, warfare occurred with like...40 soldiers fighting whenever a army simply showed up in your city screen which was pretty lame and obsolete by Total War standards. Caesar II however went for a very beta and early Total War style by being able to move your armies around a campaign map of Italy to fight intruders before they got to your walls in open combat. Now Im not asking TW to include City Building. Underlined that in case people thought I was trying to push that into this thread. But what the COULD do, assuming they include City Viewer which I agree they should bring back, is be able to tweak your defenses because from looks of Carthage in the demo, no two attacks will be the same and strategic planning of not only where to place your defending troops will be important as it looks like it would take too long to reinforce parts of your defense struggling, but to also strategically place helpful additional defensive elements such as barricades, spikes, tar pits, etc. which will make planning (Total Wars trademark) much more important than simply figuring out how to beat the AI.

    Oh god I loved that game! I still have it! The game was brilliantly conceived and fun to play. They messed up all in Caesar III and so on. I still don't get why they didn't stay with the winning formula of city building and grand strategy at provincial level. Yes, oh the battles were simple but really fun, back in the day you had conscripts from your city (light infantry), legionaries from Rome from a monthly tax(heavy infantry) and slinger from plebs pressed into duty.

    Not only that but you actually had to plan beforehand because the troops took some months to be ready, they also implemented a morale and readiness system for both campaign and battle. You could also recruit mercenaries auxiliaries for and you depending on the map they will be spearmen, bowmens, calvary bowmen, etc...

    I'll play it again this weekend!

    If I cannot look over the Seven hills every now and then, i'll be very annoyed.

    Being about to click on a building or person to see what happen'in would also be very imformative ... actually I've came up with a great IDEA!!

    just like Harry Potters marauders map, which showed all within the walls of hogwarts moving about, how about we do similar - not with a map but with the city itelf. you could show each senator / important wives etc moving from place to place. See where enemy senators go - brothel ? criminal end of town ? See your own character being chased by thugs, and a game of pacman starts!

    Not just the settlementviewer though. If I park my army in the open country I would like to be able to "visit" the battlemap and decide where to construct the marching camp.
