Default Latin ,Greek, "Welsh" etc,do you want separate languages for each faction?

I remember i think in Europa Barbarorum, that each faction had its voice mod, Latin for Romans, Greek for Hellinic factions, etc.
I think that it would be a great idea for Rome 2 to have Romans actually speak Latin and not English, (preferably with english subtitles), The same for the Hellinic and the barbaric factions.

    What do you think?

If it's not in there then I won't cry about it. I'd prefer to understand what everyone says, just maybe in their own accent. So, I'd vote no.

ItŽs so so hard to do that! of course it would be the best option if some of that "barbarian" languages had not extingished centuries ago...

But I think they will add only latin and greek languages and for the rest english... or directly, english for all!

I might be wrong about this but...

Didn't the Carthaginians speak some form of Phoenician, and didnt the Phonecian alphabet use a system of symbols representing syllables that only included consonants so we basically have no idea how to read their language, much less make sound files for it?

Yes? Just like all the other semitic languages? There no consonants in Arabic either. The writing systems for semitic langauges are called abjads, and they haven't got vowels. The word book is written "ktb" in Arabic, the word is pronunced "kitab". If you are good at reading Arabic, you just write the consonants, and you can read the word from the consonants. People who are learning it, adds some diacritical marks, which tells what vowel to use. TL;DR = Yes, there are no vowels in the Phoenician script, but that's very common for that language family.

I've never understood this. Why do you need to know exactly what the soldiers say, when they're in combat, it's mostly something like "STAY SHARP MEN" an other stuff, that you don't actually need to hear. It worked in Shogun, Empire and Napoleon. No one is suggesting, that the whole game should be in the factions native language.

Punic language can be reconstructed, you can even buy punic grammars (although they are very expensive). Both greek and present day semitic alphabets derive from phoenician alphabet, for example greek letter beta is beth in phoenician, gama is gaml, delta is daleth and so on. They did not write down vowels, but surprisingly they do have symbols for them, A is known as aleph for example.

I'd prefer the laughable comments of your advisor and soldiers to be in English, because I felt I was missing out in Shogun 2 on what they were saying.

All these little issues we have can be fixed with mods though, I doubt anybody won't buy the game because *shock horror* Romans speak English! What, and next series of Spartacus will be in Latin/Greek I presume?

I think the English speaking population will mostly go for no, i have seen that many times, they are used to everything speaking English and understanding it, but it is not the same with as who were not born in an English speaking country, we are , i think , more used to it, and we find it maybe even more interesting.

I would love to see factions speaking in their native languages. It adds to the authenticity of it all and I love hearing foreign languages even if I don't understand many.

Even if we don't get units speaking in their native tongue I hope we don't have to listen to the terrible accented English this time around.

I want the original languages, or the closest to them. I can live with "barbarians" speaking modern or medieval germanic and celtic languages, i can live with Romans and Greeks speaking medieval or even modern Greek, but what i cant tolerate is the use of this goddamn english language everywhere. Do your research, put some voice actors, and get something done. Gibson did it just fine in Apocalypto and Passion of the Christ, so i think CA can pull it off.

I think Latin and iam sure that Greek(iam greek) are very well documented from the time of Homer till now, so they will only need one professor and 2 3 guys who can read Greek and Latin, and your'done.
As for the Britonic early Celtic languages i've seen some documentaries and i know from those that the closest languages they have to those are welsh .

I voted yes. It's breaks immersion with a Roman is able to say the latin word for "testudo", but all other words in english.
Why not just say "turtle formation!"?

But I'm not going to be disappointed if they all speak English... it sure helps with better voice actors though.
No more "The day is ouuuurs!"

    CA:
I will be disappointed if I can't mod my voicemod into it!

Aim for simple moddability like in RTW with textfiles like export_descr_units, export_descr_sounds_units_voices.txt (edsuv) etc etc
Except the way it works in Warscape is a little easier.. with xml database-tables and whatnot.
Easier to have an overview with the tables.

I voted No and I am not a Native English speaker.

I want to understand what everyone is saying, I also wouldn’t mind it being the same as in RTW1, with accents, In fact I wouldn’t mind if they ported all the unit sounds from RTW1 altogether, just leave out the silly Roman pre-battle speech and that even more silly Roman post battle shouting, I agree "The day is ouuuuurs " really was lame.

Oh don’t get me wrong I like the speeches, I just don’t like the voice actors making them it wasn’t very well done, but I want even more speeches for RTW2 just better voice actors.

English with accents, I'd prefer. I didn't mind the Japanese in Shogun 2, but considering in RTW2 takes place in ancient history, you're asking CA to dig up information on a lot of dead languages that very few people speak, let alone understand.

At least those who watch any anime (undubbed/subbed) at least probably know a smattering of Japanese, and the adviser was in English to let you know when really bad things happened. Just as long as we don't have another THE DAY IS AAAAAUUUUOORS!
