Default Every unit is a general unit

Well not exactly, but in short:

Every unit should have it's own captain which would have characteristics of a general with personal traits, exp and all other cool stuff (which can be improved / added / changed with progress).

So basicly that would add a lot of different combinations of the same unit based on the captain's progress.

That way you could have much more personalized army, where each unit will be somehow unique with it's own commander (who can die, be replaced, be trained...)

    What do you think?

Too much micro, given that you'd have new units formed/wiped out constantly.

Medieval I did it right, unit commander should level up by himself acording to his expriences etc.

Agreed, I'd rather have a well developed RPG like experience with entire armies / legions like CA claims to make then the chance to micromanage hundreds of small units.

Its a good idea. I have images of cautious Captains hesitating to charge, coward ones breaking early and reckless ones being uncontrollable. lol

I dont think its micro management. You'd have a pool of Officers to assign to units. The unit in turn either benefits or is disadvantaged by that appointment.

Imagine having a huge empire and hundreds of single units....
I would get frustrated having to assign dozens of new commanders each and every turn, carefully going through their details to make sure i get the best ones.

    Auto assign with filters applied!?!

This is definitely something that some people (including me) would love and others would just find annoying. Veteranus's idea to have it auto-assigned if you wish sounds like a decent solution to me.

The pool would fluctuate depending on battles fought and manpower....a sensible General would keep the weak officers behind perhaps city watch, whereas the good ones would be at the front. The gameplay would come in when resources are thin, allowing a nurmerically weaker good general to exploit his enemies weak command but superior numbers (a realism element).

Medieval Total war did that just fine as already said, so why not.

But i think the emphasis has shifted in recent games to fewer characters and a bit more RPG elements so as to relate to them better.

Its too much work for what its worth I say.

Customisation of several units is all well and good but one single unit at a time is simply too much. Its not just a case of some want it and others dont either, CA have to implement this and it will take longer than you think.

This is a nice feature... It's interesting yes. But I don't see CA doing it, at least not for now.

CA already promises that individual armies will develop traits of their own irrespective of their general, isn't that good enough?

Yes it is. Some people just can't have enough micro-management it seems.

I think this is abit extreme...between Legions/Armies having traits and possibly general's aswell i think this is abit too much. However, i certainly wouldn't mind the captains of each unit getting more decorations/nicer armor when their unit gets more experience.
