    Default Scythed Chariots

Im playing as the Parthians and ive gone to war with the Selecuid Empire. I was fine for the 25 turns or so. All i was versing was leviespeltast and militia cavalry. Then About 15 turns ago they introduced a new unit to fight with. The dreaded Scythed Chariots. Since im parthia all i have in the department of infantry are eastern infantry(only good for holding lines) and hillmen(good but easily taken down by discplined troops). I have to wait to get Persian Imortals. So i was wondering if any one knows how to decimate scythed chariots(the ones I versus are silver chevroned). Any advice is good advice.

Use ranged cavalry to attack the chariots first the when the chariots follow use melee cavalry to cut the chariots down from behind if neede use infantry to finish the job.

Or if you can, find some mercenary units that have phalanx. They dont last long against that.

Try javelin cavalry, anytype will do. If not, normal missile infantry are prettly deadly. BTW; I dont beleive the Parthians get immortals

I was thinking that too, but its been a while since I have played

Are you playing with a mod that gives them to you (I dident think there was one either :-P )

But back to the topic, yes I do agree they are pretty week to some good missile infantry or cavalry. Just focus your persian horse archers on them.

he must be using a mod becasue parthia only has 2 infantry units, mass infantry works if you cant get enything else, also if you send cav into melee with all chariots you will find you cav die even if they chase chariots, but infantry, its cheap and once a chariot stops if is killed quickly

Some types of cavalry can chase and kill chariots...most get slaughted by the scythed wheels.

Ive never played Perthia. Missile fire from your horse archers is what I would try. As Romans I used fire arrows and artillery, as Egyptians I used chariot archers.

Cause the chariots to run amok whilst they were close to the enemy lines. Once amok they would kill many of their own troops.

This picture was taken as two AI generals went down to their own chariots running amok. I hadnt entered the city...I will have a red carpet welcome...a carpet of their blood. ;<)

Use the Horse archers and Persian cavalry. That ought to do the trick.

    PS- Armenia has better cavalry

Like several of the people above mentioned, use ranged cavalry or even ranged infantry if you must. But horse archers are preferable. They are fast enough to avoid the chariots and the cantabrian circle, does a fairly decent job of eliminating enemy chariots.

Another occurance of AI Scythed chariots being used against the AI

One chariot comes under fire and runs amok into another. The other one will run amok and both will run down to that army in the distance and cause some mayhem.

You can also use your cavalry to lure an enemy cavalry unit to attack you then lead that chasing cavalry into an amok unit...scythed chariots (or elephants).

Haha, Severous's posts remind me of a time I was playing as the Brutii and was assaulting a Pontic city. It was packed to the brim with troops, and I had onagers and Cretan archers with me, so I let the onagers and archers waste their ammo before I entered the city. I finally send my troops in, and literally half the garrison of over 2,000 men was slaughtered by scythed chariots running amok before I even got in!

I am using a mod and i forget what its called. Its a bit hard to get phalanx mercs in Asia and Russia. Horse archers work but they take ages and usually once i start firing at them they get into a loose formation and charge me and their chariots all have silver chevrons and the odd gold or 2.The only mercs i get by the way are, Eastern Infantry(crap),Scythian Mercenaries(copy of Parthian Horse Archers), Sarmatian Mercanaries(grod but Cataphracts better)

Horse archers always work for me, and along with Cataphracts I am easily able to defeat scythed chariots. You just have to use them right.

Phalanx type spearmen are a sovereign remedy for all cavalry units provided their backs are protected.

    Make some or hire some.
