In the game when you're at war your Military Research capabilities gets % boost since you are in a war state while when your nation is in peace you get a Civil Research boost.
If you're at war + % to MR and -% to CR vice versa in state of peace.
Making it so if you war a lot you'll get boost in tech and better units fast while you would seriously be hindered in the civil development of your faction or the other way around.
Also maybe include a Tech pt system? Example: say 30 techs 15/15 and you're given 20 pts total to use making it so you choose whether to be a warring faction with best troops possible but with a less desirable economy or a faction with a wealth of trade that has the income to support huge army's/mercenary's but troops of less quality.
This could also be advantage in conquering... Example: Being a warring nation you conquer a nation who has chosen path of Civil Research while you would get the upgraded ( Bazaars/Markets/Banks ) income generated you wouldn't get the extra bonuses that the Civil research applies to them that makes that Tree worth going so while it would be a boost to your economy it wouldn't be the end game and start a new deal I have the best of both.
just a thought.
