Default 3 Roman families - or one single faction?

When I first played RTW I was a bit overwhelmed by the fact that there were 3 factions - no idea which one to choose first. Took the Julii and completed the campaign but that was that I guess, never played the Romans again.

But after I played some RTW mods I realised that it would be more efficient with just one single faction. Just one of them would suffice and make the game more interesting...

Or would it? I'm curious how people prefer, 3 families so you can unite them all, or one single faction?

The whole divided Rome has the potential to be better its just hard to make that vision happen. Like I've been saying it would be great for its own campaign. You make a family or choose one and of you go.

Having 3 Roman factions is not historically accurate, and it adds nothing to the game. If CA wants the Rome 2 to have civil wars, then a new faction can just spawn from a pissed off general or senator.

Currently planned as one... I wonder if it will change, or how the factional support will be presented/portrayed.

My guess is as of the main campaign there will be one. For DLC hopefully the'll do something like Caesar's campaign in Gaul which leads to the civil war. There you can have multiple factions, each with their own legions.

Something like The First Triumvirate mod for RTW (which reminds me I need to redownload this weekend and play again).

That's quite a good idea tbh, but at the same time I wish for not just one but 4 or 5 consistent DLC packs. Alexander's campaign included, even if it's out of the scope of the game.

I loved this aspect of the vanilla game, way back before I knew it was historically bogus. But it was still a great gameplay mechanic - everything leading up to that almighty clash of Roman arms; competing for popularity with the senate and the public against your fellow romans. Loved it.

Not sure how you could re-implement it without faking the factions again. Maybe have political factions instead of geographical family factions? Thus the player could choose to side with with, say, the mercantile party and that group attempts to dominate the senate and set new goals for you, a suspiciously immortal consul. Lol. Seems impossible to get that to work.

Methinks it will be a united Rome with scripted/triggered internal tiffs.

I like diversity, but something is telling me that there will be only 1 Rome Faction.

I hope there will be 3 different Roman factions, + SPQR controlling Rome. It made things much more interesting by creating competition and leading up to a massive civil war.

I think it will be 1 because of historical accuracy. I do however hope they add an option or a campaign where they are divided and you have to do the whole fame thing like in Rome 1. It was "special" fighting other Romans somehow.

It doesn't really matter, they will all suffer extermination in the end.

I'd like to see 1roman factions with 3 roman families and the senate. You're not in your own faction but rather a high ranking politician within the Roman senate.

Single please with the senate potentially being a separate body.

Like playing as the great houses of Game of Thrones > 1 united Kingdom with small difficulty.

Also new family/intrigue and more in depth campaign stuff might be hard not to have them seperated.

I think they should have multiple campaigns, like in Napoleon.

It was said in an interview, that they prefer to use periods of lots of fighting where any faction can come out on top, so why not make a campaign about a bunch of different roman families going to war against each other with their own cities?((I do want to see a custom city making thing. )) Or just make the Roman Faction into the same thing it was in Rome, SPQR, and a group of powerful families. I'd prefer to see a lot though, with a bit of variety between them.

Playing the different Roman factions in Rome was just the same thing over and over again, with seemingly the same exact units.

...that sounds terribly ahistorical (variety between separate Roman factions??) and it doesn't seem to go along with their greater attention to historical detail since Empire. I think we'll see a more accurate political and artistic depiction of Rome and the rest of the European world for Rome 2. Not perfectly accurate (what is?) but much more accurate than the original.

    Fair enough.
It just seemed so generic. If they were to have multiple roman families, atleast have a LITTLE variety.

Assuming Lusted's statement that Rome will be one faction does not come to pass somehow, I don't really see how they could have variety between Roman "factions."
