Default do siege maps ever change?

just started playing shogun 2, i have invaded 3 towns now and each time i fight on the map i notice the maps are exactly the same, same hill in the same place right in the middle of my troops, do they ever change? i know rtw and mtw changed depending on which side you invaded on and so on but in shogun 2 they have always been the same

Yes, there are multiple siege maps. You just must be having a string of bad luck.

    OP,

To me, frankly, the siege maps always look identical as are the forts/castles themselves. People say they're different, but in my 500 hours of S2 they have always seemed the same.

It's one of my biggest gripes with S2. It looks like with Rome II they've reintroduced cities into sieges, which, IMO, is desperately needed in TW games. Sieges are so common, so important... and so BORING in S2!

There are definitely variations per castle type, but they often seem similar, and since units can scale any wall, generally play out the same way.

I do miss the sieges of actual cities in the previous Total War games, cities that reflected the buildings you had built in them and what not.

Yes technically there are "different" maps, but my point is that while playing, this technicality doesn't do you much good. The maps really are similar... granted, "it's Japan, so of course it's all similar". Sigh!

I really agree with you about cities, buildings being present in Sieges. How cool would it be if during a frantic siege you could be like "crap, we're going to lose... well, burn down his naginata dojo and his shinobi district while were here!"

I'm pretty sure you could actually do that in Rome and possibly Medieval. Target specific buildings with your artillery to damage them, which was then reflected back on the campaign map.

Or I may be dreaming. Been a long time since I've played either game.

    You are not dreaming.

I wouldn't know, I started my TW trouble shooting journey, I mean game playing journey, with ETW. Even in empire at least there were buildings within the forts, though they didn't reflect the campaign map buildings.

I don't mind the same castle architecture, but the area surrounding the castle, the terrain of the battle map, is often extrmeley similar if not the same. The same bridge off a huge cliff behind the castle, same watch towers, same everything.

I'm going to take two screen shots and see if even the trees are in the same position .

Well... half and half. In ETW there are buildings inside the forts, which you can garrison (and your troops will shoot out of the windows).

But those buildings don't correspond to your town's actual buildings.

I really liked ETW, as it is absolutely MASSIVE compared to Shogun 2 (ETW spans almost the entire planet, there are three different huge campaign map areas). But be warned that it's a "gun powder" total war, and not everyone is on board with that. It's quite different from RTW or S2TW.
