Default Open tech units roster by era not by building

One thing I ound slightly annoying was to not be ble to build a proper decnt army till find all the techs ..... I hope they ill skip this obsolete system and use a new solution possibly opening the whole legionary or units update accordingto era types like :

You discover techs and buildings up to fill a certain requirement after wich a new techera is triggered and all units start to updatetheir equipment slowly by staying in friendly cities ..... Like for example see pass from a helmettype set to a more advanced one or armr or weapons sloly so that 80% of men use the old at beginning an 20% the new in the units nd so on gradulally hifting the percntage of men using the new tuff in the units by passing of time and seasoning in friendly places .....

Also I hope you can recruit full operative armies not stacks of 1 type units and take lot of time to gther a decent historically orrect army legion ... Instead of armies of archers or armies of peasants or of gladiators ...

FOTS use of research is good which is base on clan development. In Rome II maybe research tech can be open base on events, tech to have burning pigs as siege defence weapons after first encounter with elephants, contacts with hispanic armies opens the development of better gladius and so on. Same goes for other factions and not just the romans.

Romans didnt learn from enemies , and enemies didnt lesrn from romans , thismis just a generalization , romans just where a more flexible culture beeing able tomevolve and change , so thier adaptations on field reflect the need for different tactics or weapons , if they saw some other culture had a better equipment then why not to readopt it improve and use as standard? Thats was a roman principle , also for example they invented the corvus to adapt and be able to beat the cartaginian ships....

So they did learn from enemies, then?

Yes, though I would prefer it's base on events/contacts rather that building level. This hopefully can create more randomness.

Fully agree, I did that in EIC mod for Napoleon TW. Having line infantry, light cavalry, and one kind of guns in 1805 was ridiculous. Most of elite and heavy units were present before that date.

Opening it by era implies history is being made, does the player have a chance to alter it? does the AI have a chance to alter it?

If not than I cannot endorse this idea.

The eras are triggered by your actions as player or the ai .

CA said something about events and dilemmas being triggered by the player on the campaign map (something like reaching Africa triggers an event, discovering a tribe/nation and trading with them triggers another etc.) this would be a great way to implement this idea imo

If the game started from romes inception it would not be a problem!
Then you would be fighting the samnites and the like with only one or two unit types.

why couldnt we just have a similar progression system as Rome 1. just with a few things added on?

i miss the old construction systems of Med 2, Rome 1. THe ability to change individual settlements taxes. Having 6-8 settlements per region (like 8 in Gaul, 6-8 in Italy etc at least).
