    Default 1 turn per week?

a user which name i forgot posted a link to this fantastic site:

    http://orbis.stanford.edu/

it is a bit like google maps route planer for ancient rome

according to this site even a regular army could march from rome to the border of the empire in less then four month.

so with the current system of 4 turns per year armies realistically would move very far in one turn without a chance to intercept them.

so there are two solutions i can think of:
1st make a large zone of control
    2nd make shorter turn times

in my opinion 1 turn per week would suit best but the game would progress slow.

so 1 turn per month with slightly reduced movement and larger zones of control would be a good compromise.

i do not mind if there are units in the game which are not realistic but the slow movement on the campaign map is a bit of a game breaker for me

1 Turn per week = 52 Turns in a year

Last rome game had over 200 years

    52 x 200 - 1040 turns

    A bit excessive?

You mean 10 040 turns? And yes, that's too excessive in my opinion.
"Pompeius, after having finished the war against Mithridates, when he went to call at the house of Poseidonios, the famous teacher of philosophy, forbade the lictor to knock at the door, as was the usual custom, and he, to whom both the eastern and the western world had yielded submission, ordered the fasces to be lowered before the door of science."

Going by FoTS' clearly more spacious map, almost like a MTW2 big map mod, I'm now expecting more realistic travel times between cities in Rome 2.

I'd say perfect , they woud just need to make the game starting at different stges with different time periods to chose and play characterized by different setups , armies and powers .... Then also a customizable timesetting so to have also. The supercampaign from begin to end all 1000 turns...

I personally would like the idea of 12 turns per year. Not only would it give the appropriate scale for movement, but you would have to plan where your army would spend "winter quarters" and so forth.

I'm hoping the game will have appropriate heavy penalties for campaigning in winter months - even in your own territory since this was almost never done in ancient times - there are a few exceptions, but they are just that, exceptions.

Excessive, or accurate? I assume this would only be possible with the best roads imaginable though, so maybe good for late game... not so much for early game.

1 turn per week in Rome 2? No way in hell - why would you want that many turns - do you ever want to complete more than one campaign?

One turn per month would be better IMO.

i just read that the tool reflects the conditions around 200ce so i think it would take longer to march from rome to the end of the map in the timeframe tw:r2 will cover.

but if you look at sea travel to sail from rome to carthago it only took about five days in 200ce for an army to get there

btw marching to carthago via turkey would take about 243 days

Then one turn per month ?

=12 turns a year( which is even better- 3turns winter, 3 turns spring, 3 turns summer and 3 turns autnum)

    12 x 200 = 2400

Its quite good, although I always hate when my game ends beacuse of the end date and I still wanted to play it.

200 years isn't that long really although I hope they don't redo 1 turn per year, that would realllllyyyy p'me off!

1 turn per month sounds great then divide the game into eras - Roman Italic expansion - Phyrus - 1st punic war - 2nd Punic war etc etc etc

Four turns per year - I think Shogun 2 has it right. Apart from anything else, have you considered how many men you're gonna lose to winter attrition if you go with one turn per week, or even one turn per month??

Seasonal turns are about the best we can hope for but I suspect we will get 2 turns per year.

Should be modable OP. Has been with Warscape up until this point. I don't see CA making a 10000 turn game though.
