    Default Freeze in battles

    Hello,

I hope you can help me here :/

I just installed this great game again and tried to play it but then quickly I remembered why I deinstalled it in the past...

When I play the game all runs fine. But when I enter a battle, it quickly freezes my computer.

The screen freezes, mouse and keyboard are disabled (their lights are out), and my hard disks make some noises like the get resetted.

I canīt do anything at this point then push the reset button, since the computer is completly frozen.

I had this problems in the past with another graphics card. I have all drivers new.

No other game I play (and I play a lot) have any trouble like this, or much trouble at all. I can play games like BF 3, Sup Com 2, Mass Effect 3 etc. without any problems or crashes or freezes.

I really want to know how I can stop this.

Could it be because of quad core processor?

Please help me to play this nice game again I have the steam version.

    DxDiag is attached.

Sorry for double post, but I do not know how to edit here.

I have of course reinstalled the game several times, before you ask

I deleted all files etc., deinstalled it, reinstalled it... nothing helped.

Have you tried ti with the DPI set to default (100%)?

Have you tried updating the motherboard drivers?

    Are you using two monitors?

    Thanks for answering

What exactly is DPI? How do I change it?

Are they not up to date? When I remember corrcetly I looked for new ones not long ago. Not sure if there are newer ones or how I install exactly those that I need, since there is much to download there :/

    No, only 1 monito

The first pic is your DPI settings where you set them back to default.

The second pic is clear type. May want to try the game with it turned off if it's on right now.

Motherboard drivers I don't know as your motherboard/computer brand and model do not show in the dxdiag.

Only one monitor is a good thing with Total War games.

Okay I made that DPI... freeze again in battle

I do not use Clear type.

Drivers should be good, not long ago made all new

I have mouse and keyboard on a usb 1 port since I have some other things in computer. Could that cause the trouble? But all other games run fine

Question - are you using a wireless dual mouse/keyboard combo in one USB port? M2 has had trouble in the past with wireless setups....

@irish - do you think the Intellitype driver might fix this? I'm not sure it's rated for mouse and keyboard combos?...

Being on the same port, possible.

Could use two USB ports just to test it?

Have you disabled the UAC, yet, if you're the only one using the computer?

Hmm I will try to get some new ones with 3.0 support then. But for now I donīt have any :/ But should that then not make errors and crashes on other games, too? Still will try to get some in shop

    What is UAC?

    Total War's worst nightmare. http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to...-in-windows-7/

The only reason I can think of that the game could have trouble in battle mode with the mouse and leyboard in the same port is the way Windows allocates IRQs and DMAs. This old train of thought goes back to the troubles with DOS programs.

Just for no more than a test and if it works, you have a starting point. Turn yourmonitor resolution down to 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 and leave all the eyecandy minimum or off. The game code is when 512mb cards ruled and 2gb cards were only a disant dream.

Hmm.. I have that slider at lowest already :/ The other things, I must take a closer look tomorrow Had work etc., bed time now

For the graphic things: I had a 800 MB card before, made not all at highest there and had a monitor with 1024x768... had the same problems there Frozen in battles :/ But I can still try that of course. I am not sure but I think at that time I did not use USB port, too. Its some time ago. I deinstalled the game because of that problems.

A quad core could not cause them?

Thanks for your nice help till now Lets hope we find it in the next days

I have a quad-core, win7 64bit. No problems for me but my mouse and keyboard have their own USB ports.

Intellitype and Intellimouse are two different installs and two different drivers. It could be worth a try.

    Hey there,

what I have is such a USB switch with 4 slots, for if I use too much USB things and need more slots. Donīt know if this should bring problems.

For the quad core: So you donīt switch to just 1 CPU usage? It just runs fine?

Hm okay I now tried the following things:

UAC is already down in the slider.

    IDE to default.

Resolution to 1024x768 with normal settings (not highest).

Put back mouse and keyboard to computer usb ports, so they now have different slots.

There is no clear type or something like that running.

    Game runs as administrator.

Drivers should be up to date.

Game again made a freeze in the first battle I encountered

    Must go to work now

    Will check it later.

I made one battle now while attach the game to just one core, it worked. It was not a large battle so I am not sure if it is the clue, but at least it could be so. I will look later in this txt

    Thanks
