Default Let's bring back the Urbans.

For city defense, just like we had Armed Citizenry and Samurai Retainers in NTW and STW2.

Who care's if it is historically inaccurate, and if it isn't, the modders can sort this out.

If CA provide us with capable modding tools, that is

I take it you mean Urban Cohorts as the militia grade city defence force they were, rather than the top tier infantry unit they were in Rome I? Much as I didn't mind historical inaccuracies, I felt this wasn't necessary - we had Praetorians to fill that role.

No thanks, Just give us armed plebians, peasants etc. And not fancy armor and weapons either. An undefended city should be easy pickings for a standard force.

Agreed. Maybe one unit of 90 men like the Samurai retainers in Shogun 2 of "urban cohorts" or whatever, but nothing like they were in Rome if I'm remembering them correctly.

This! Just make them the civil militia used only for urban defense.

normally i'm not the largest 'historically accurate' fanboy (i like a mix, and don't think history should get in the way of more important things like balancing and stuff) but the thought of urban cohorts like they were in rome brings a rage face to me. lol. As a replacement to a low tiered garrison unit fine, but as the top tiered 'i am invincible' unit they were.....

I'm sure some of the description is probably pasted from the Praetorian unit description. Oh, and no Urbans. I think splitting Praetorians between early and late versions like RSII did would be cooler.

Not as units which we can recruit. As spawned garrison unit during sieges is okay.

Actually, the Urban Cohorts did exist as legionnaires whose main task was to keep order in and near Rome. I dunno how elite they would have really been, but it makes sense that they would be near as important as the Praetorians were.

Hopefully they'll be available in later cities, filling a role like Samurai retainers. I shudder to think of what it'll be like if they come back the way they were in RTW. Oh god; so OP, and this is coming from someone who plays Rome almost exclusively.
