Default This time no stupid IA cav , CA

It's incredible that after rome tw CA can't fix stupid AI cav
In all games from rome/med 2 to FOTS cav units charge the first line, even if the human player has yari muskets pikemen ecc. And this is always the first IA move in the battle
In particular generals are really stupid

Only Shogun 2 sieges have a good cav/generals AI

CA, it's very easy to understand: cav should be used in the middle of the battle against archers from the rear

How long should we wait for a decent cav AI?

Uhm, I seem to remember in Empire cavalry units being especially careful NOT to rush into my squares. Or was it just my imagination?

    Of course AI

Empire cav was maybe the worst of all total war games

Empire's cav would stutter and "second think" itseld. Thus it stops right before your line, and you could blast it to bits.

Shogun 2's ai for cav is alot more decisive and smart. It knows how to flank, and put pressure on your rear and flanks, so you have to protect it. I'm pretty sure if CA keeps up what they have been doing, the ai will be very much inproved in the next couple of titles.

    Well... it's an improvement.

Well, you can call it an improvement in the way of "the AI thinks better". Though sadly, it only makes the AI weaker

You're right about s jidai, in particular with darth mod. But in FOTS cav AI is often so bad

I would have to say that the missle cav of fots is in need of work, as it charges too soon, and can't find blind spots.

The melee cav seems good though.

I was actually playing a battle today on Fots and was heavily flanked by cavalry not realising they were even there. I was pretty impressed.

AI should make crazy charges every so often. Obviously not all the time. It might depend on the character of the commander/sub-commander; the fog of battle; the necessity of winning the battle quick due to reinforcements or whatever is at stake (e.g. the home province). All sorts of factors could set the tone of the AI unit behaviour.

What you do not want all the time are genius horse units playing a dance, constantly avoiding your dangerous units like a sick parody of mulitplayer. BUT. Imagine just one enemy unit doing that Oo
