I think it has already been said a few times that CA had decided to make Rome a single faction, which is in my opinion the best way to go.

Maybe not through families but sub-factions, etruscan, sabine, samnite etc .. but at a earlier date.

Huge sand-box game probably better one faction but a sub-game of Hannibal attacking italy should be about breaking up Romes alliances - etruscans, sabines, samintes, southern greeks etc

    .. but will it ???

I would like to see one faction!
CA should adopt the same system implemented in Europa Universalis: Rome. In this game, there's only one Roman faction which also includes the senate as well as several families vying for power.

I liked the way they had it in RTW where you had three separate Roman factions to simulate civil war in the late-game phase. I can't imagine any way to have that occur when you're just a single mono-faction.

The factions in RTW represented various political forces within Rome. If the traditional system of families is implemented, then all you have is one faction leader, faction heir, and members acting as generals. The Romans foguht eachother, even if it wasn't open combat. I can't imagine any other method to simulate the kind of competition amongst Romans in a single "faction".
I'd say they'll make it so rebellion is possible if you allow it to occur, so you can have a civil war if you wish it

Well the Roman republican state is one. However you have family,s vying for power and influence within the Senate.
So yes the families should be included with a modified version of the RTW1.family version.
If CA can pull off the intrigue and back stabbing which ultimately broke out in open civil war this would be the best of both worlds.
You could perhaps split the senate into factions with the intense rivalry depicted.

So basically, CA should use the same diplomacy system as in M2TW? Or would that be too much backstabbing?

1 faction, as I hate when I play as for example the Giuli and someone else take down Carthage or the Greek factions

But I will also hate if the give me absolute control over Rome since the beginning. The Civial war should be a major topic of this game, as already appointed by others.

I'd like to have it split like the original and focus your conquest in a certain area before branching out.

Boicote that game sucks, no battles besides the soldier figures stabbing each other, that's a piece of crap, i hated Roma Universalis, waste of money.

It's a game focused solely on the grand strategy aspect, if you bought it expecting RTT battles like in total war then the joke is on you.

The game is not even close to being released. How can you judge it? And it won't be like a Europa Universalis game, which I don't know, but I'm pretty sure they don't involve real-time battles on a separate battlefield.

Its possible in Roma Surrectum Mod for RTW1 already where you start as one faction and you get two different Roman rebellions or civil war, one at the start if you lose a few battles to Hannibal’s invading army in Italy and one after you have hit 85+ provinces where you might get up to half your provinces rebelling to the Roma rebels faction.

Really? My opinion about this game is completely different. The game doesn't have battles but instead the AI and the diplomacy are very good. EU:Rome Gold is one of my favorite games ever released by Paradox, but probably that's because I really like this time period .

Why not? Personally I would prefer to click in a window and talk to the senate than to see the senate as a faction. I also think the developers of EU:Rome found a very nice way to represent the senate and the intrigues between characters. TW:R2 doesn't have to be so complex as EU:Rome, but some of it's features could be a source of inspiration for CA.
