Alexandros, Rufus' lone slave, answered the door and showed him to his master. Rufus sat in a desk and narrowed his small eyes on the Tribune.
"Welcome Tribune, it is an honor to have you in my home. May I provide you with food? Drink?"

Rufus sat back, staring into the distance.
"When I was a boy my father was a Senator but he fell into debt when he attempted to run for the position of Consul and failed. As a result I was forced to flee the city with my mother and my sister and head East to the Graecian provinces. There they made a life for themselves and I joined the legions. I served in Carthage and other fronts and eventually became a Tribune. The last war I fought in was the Jugurthine war and I have now returned to Rome to seek a restoration to my families fortunes."

"I don't know. People talk of the private Legions moving toward the Northern border, but it could be to counter a Gallic advance that we have yet to hear in Rome. But at this point, and the way things have been in the Senate, it may be very possible."
