CTD on Startup v6.4

I've been working at this for nearly 6 hours with no lucky... finally turning towards the forums for help.

Every time I go to launch SS_setup.exe I leave all default options selected and hit 'Start and Exit". At the very first load screen I CTD every time. I see a knight on the screen for maybe 1-2 seconds then CTD happens.

I have vanilla + kingdoms (crusades only) installed and upon installing Kingdoms it auto updated me to version 1.4. I've tried reinstalling MTW2 3 times. I've installed 6.3 and 6.4 as administrator with the UAC settings off. I've also tried having MTW2 installed in program files as well as to my desktop AND c:Games folder as well. I've made sure that 6.3 is installed into the mods folder of MTW2 and then 6.4 installed into 6.3 folder. I'm not sure what else to try. I've tried everything I've read on similar forums.

Sometimes upon CTD I get the same exact box that this thread discusses http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=468172 and other times upon CTD I get a window pop up saying MTW2 encountered an unspecified error ect ect. I don't know what Jackie Chan means when he says all he did was move the 6.3 into the right path??

ANY help is appreciated. Really looking forward to playing this mod!

Welcome to the SS Forum.

I want you to do following:

1. Delete SS from your Mods folder
2. Clean Up, Defrag and Registry Clean
3. Click Windows Sign, bottom left, key in hidden files. Then mark the appropriate radio box.
4. Go into your Windows Personal Folder, top right after click Windows sign.
5. Locate App Data folder, any file referring to MTW2, SS, delete it.
6. VERY IMPORTANT. Please check that the file sizes of your downloads equal what they should be.
7. Please patch MTW2 to 1.5, make sure you use the correct version for your MTW2.
8, Install 6.3, make sure it works.
9. Then 6.4 to same place.

Problem still persists. I did discover when I originally was updated MTW2 to version 1.05 the update wasn't taking b/c I had DL'd the gold update version. After discovering this I DL'd the correct patch and was able to patch to 1.05. When I go to run the 6.3 setup it I receive the following pop-up msg 'Not enough campaigns or missing files' and program closes. I verified the files sizes of my 6.3 files and they match all the other downloads I see online for 6.3.

I've read a ton of forums on this matter and it seems if UAC isn't the problem then I'm just SOL. I've installed countless mods for MTW2 and ETW and never had such a problem just getting a mod to launch... ugh

Please try right click, Run as Admin, report back

Yep, done that. I've tried right click, run as admin. I've also tried going into my user accounts and made sure I'm the only account logged in AND have admin privileges. Would it be worth seeing if an older version of SS will run? 6.3/6.4 is my first attempt @ using SS...

The only other thing I can think of is the DL I used to get 6.3 must be damaged or something right? I got the DL through gameupdate or filefront or something similar.

When you opened the hidden files, was there anything in the Apps Folder?

R U running this from Steam?

Nothing pertaining to MTW2 or SS was listed in the folder. I'm running the game off of the box set (non-gold edition). ATM I'm re downloading the 6.3 patch, this time via torrent. Also, I'm doing a completely fresh install again of MTW2/Kingdoms.

Tanks for the help thus far.. Hoping to make some headway on this problem today.

Finally got it working. The 6.3 via torrent was the solution. W/e files I was using previously to install 6.3 must have been damaged as when I installed 6.3 via the torrent download I noticed it took much longer to actually install.. game was able to launch w/o CTD. I went to install 6.4 and again got CTD on launch. I re-downloaded the 6.4 patch via torrent, installed, launched, no CTD.

I haven't actually created/started a campaign and went through any turns yet.. but at least it launches w/o CTD.
