Default 0-1 turn per unit...Is this changeable?

    Hi RS team,

I have the 2.5 beta right now. Thank you and great job btw!

One thing that concerns me is the 0-1 turn to create a unit.

Is there a way to tweak this to make it more realistic or have I missed the boat insofar as this mod being actually a reflection of realism?

I'm not trying to insult anyone as I love this mod and am deeply thankful for it.

    Thanks kindly,
    hellas1

Not sure what you are asking, but all the factions have a 0-turn recruitment and 1-turn recruitment version.

I have a question: do all factions have 1 turn campaigns or only Rome?

All do you just go the one one-turn campaigns option under Rome and then you go to play one turn campaign and you choose from there like in vanilla.

I have to ask - but what is "more realistic"?

I'll certainly give you a counter-argument - possibly for whichever way it goes.....

    What I meant was this?

Is a 0-1 turn unit production time realistically reflective of how armies were created?

I don't think it is and that is why I want the vanilla recruitment and training times.

    My question was answered.

No argument needed from you sir.

0-turn recruitment is to an extent more realistic. The Romans for example didn't create a legion over years but in a matter of months. And as most people play 2-turns per year it is more realistic. However the fact that very single unit is so quick and easy to make is no historical. if the "Royal Army of _____" was destroyed they probly wouldnt be able to create a similar quality army in a matter of months.

    I approve of this statement.

    Well, I won't.

In the Early Republic the Romans did not create 4, 6, 10 or even 20 legions in a 'matter of months'. What everyone seems to miss is that they already had the troops - trained willing and able. Those men, in the main, were on their farms during the 'Winter' and were called up for campaign during the 'Summer' - but they were already trained and equipped - they only had to get 'dressed'.

In RTW, and therefore RSII, you are dealing with the different situation of standing armies. In which case, and the Roman's in particular, you have hidden the normal yearly-replacement and training cycle (but reflected in the maintenance costs) of having ~10% of your troops replaced every year (natural wastage). It is only when you want to raise a new legion that you actually recruit.

This was only done, after Augustus, at a rate of 1 every 10 years or so and to achieve it would have required the drafting in of experienced soldiers from many of the existing legions.

If there were other limitations then it wouldn't matter, but the only game way to reflect that is best done by 1turn recruitment (although maybe 2 would be better for cavalry, etc).

0turn is fine for people who want more battles - it's no different to having unlimited ammo in console/arcade-entertainment.
