    Default Becoming Emperor

I was just wondering how will CA implement the transition of an emperor? In RTW after your emperor died it was simply the next in line in the family tree that would take the spot but historically this didn't happen so often.

I was wondering if maybe an emperor could be chosen by the popularity of the senate/army/people and not just by family. There would be a chart showing each general/family member with a percentage of how they approve of you.

Also for the current Emperor if he should start to fall out with one of these 3 after he is appointed then there should be some negative effects like:

If he falls out with the senate then maybe the chance of him being assassinated would increase.

if he falls out with the army you could start to see maybe generals starting to rebel and bid to be emperor themselfs

If he falls out with the people then you would start to see higher unrest in the provinces.

Its just an idea I got. Maybe people could add more to it. I just hope its more detailed then in RTW.

Based off CA's scrupulous attention to historical accuracy, I'd say your faction leader will have to climb the top of a mountain, face an army of renegade Roman Ninjas and then remove a magic sword from a stone. He will then return to the forum and be paraded in as emperor by an escort of flaming pigs and amazon chariots.

Its obvious CA is not doing this anymore. Can you name a fantasy units from ETW or NTW? Prob not so dont judge Rome II like Rome I.

Obviously, if you have an emperor and his command and influence is low a rebel general might appear and march on the capital.

It would be cool if your faction leader, the emperor, is not in the capital when it is taken then you whereever you are control half the empire or whatnot and the rebel general controls the capital and the other half of the empire... so basically the empire split since the actual Emperor is still alive. But he might only have 3 cities or whatnot. From there on maybe the player gets the option to control the Emperor or the rebel general.

Not sure how you go from Republic to Emperor. Maybe the same way. A Rebel marches on the capital and after he takes it you get the option to play as the General or not and then another option if you choose the general - to declare yourself Emperor or rule through the Senate like Sulla.

We can't take a few events, then morph the mechanics into replicating them. I mean the emperors where mostly hereditary, we shouldn't take a few rare events and just try to recreate that specific event. When we do it ends up becoming ridiculous like how in EU:Rome generals are always rebel against Rome yet in history it wasn't that often. Things that rare should be rare not happening every year.

My answer is: it depends hows it's implemented e.g. some thing that happens every 10 rulers then sure lets have it, but every 2 rulers = too much and I have to reject the motion.

I guess this is another case where taking some tips from CK2 could help. When each character actually has their own agenda and opinions, these things feel better than a random civil war popping up.

In the idea competition thread on the official forums I spent an hour writing out this idea for a dynamic way your character could become emperor. Complete with ambitions, titles, multiple family trees, fame and dynamic revolts. When I was done and it was submitted, I realize I was basically just describing Crusader Kings 2.

Haha, Well I just hope we get something a little more detailed then what we had in RTW. My emperor was just a title. Other then that he was just another general in my army. Atleast thats the way it felt.

What might work would be an imitation of the old RTW Senate system: assuming Rome2 has two or more Roman factions, the faction leader (or the faction in general) rises itself up with popularity, and eventually come to civil war with the other factions. Eventually, the first person to reach max popularity attains the title of Caesar, and can easily persuade the Senate to discredit the other Roman factions- or destroy them in typical TW fashion.

The difference is that unlike RTW where you're hostile to all the other Romans in an instant, any Roman faction that is too weak can align with you as a protectorate faction. Kinda like FOTS's Realm Divide where sides have to choose Imperial or Shogun- in this case, it's the Republic's senate, or Caesar. If the AI manages to attain it and declares war on you, you can still vie for pupularity by beating the Caesar forces and have their own popularity wane. Eventually you become the next Caesar. You can then march into Rome and become emperor (or Princeps, as they historically used to avoid monarchic connotations).
