Default Please allow option to butcher entire provinces.

Okay, upon viewing the promotional material that CA has released so far, it's clear they have finally completed their dumbing down of this series. Beach landings are absolute style over substance, the animation looks retarded, and there's no word yet of a console port, (I can't be alone in wanting to wage ancient war from my sofa!) and it seems like the minority of history nerds are getting their way in making the different factions as boring as possible.

But all this I don't care for, my real concern is not having the ability to control my population through harsh measure. The genocide option when dealing with cities was removed in Empire and it made the game unplayable, my cities would grow too large and uncontrollable. Paradox games also are guilty of removing this feature, I understand the negative implications of simulating genocide during their ww2 era games, but during antiquity and the middle ages it was too common to not be part of gameplay. Total war games are supposed to be about ruling a nation and that includes playing the role of a despot, in fact a big aspect of gaming in general is being able to live out various fantasies. Some of mine include those of destruction and apocalyptia and misuse of power. During my school years I suffered quite bad racial bullying and my only outlet was to torture my creature on that old god game, Black and White, and afterwards bought a little game called Medieval: Total War, and I loved that you could press that button to execute prisoners mid-battle, the little soundbite was awesome, bring back that option too! This is what made me fall in love with gaming.

So please CA, stay true to the classic Rome Total War game, you got mostly everything right back then,
the vivid colour schemes were stupid I guess.

I take exception to this, a few years ago I was diagnosed with PTSD following an extremely violent encounter with my drunken stepfather. Mere months after being discharged from hospital I was bullied out of my workplace, my colleagues openly called me names for a long period (psycho being the big one) and when they physically started to push me around I confronted my boss, he personally said that I should be committed and let me go on the spot. I think you should try and be more sensitive and not assume things about people.

I guess there will be the option to burn down the city once captured after all you will be playing Rome.

Perhaps fighting an enemy inside a city that was recently slaughtered there should be little details of what transpired, skeletons littering the streets, makeshift graveyards. Nothing too macabre but just subtle details to add depth.

Well I don't doubt it will be RTW as it was so comon back then. It wasn't in ETW because mass murder didn't happen for a variety of reasons, religion, high population relative to military technology and simply the nature of war at the time among them. Empire Total War's period of war had a lower effect on civilians than war at any other time in history.

Consul? WHY???????? Why does everyone like them so much, computers are soooooooo much better. Also, dumbing down of the series? what do you mean? Also, how do the animations look stupid, you haven't even seen it.

Fail OP, fail. Consoles suck and for Total War they suck even harder. CA have only shown screenshots, no gameplay. This is a stupid thread.

OP is either trolling or dont know where to speak about his issues.

The Killing Population Option wasn´t in Empire because it was not common in the Era to randomly Execute half a City after capturing it.
    Make Total War Great Again

    Depends on the geographical region...

OP, you said some of your main fantasies include "those of destruction and apocalyptia and misuse of power", not to mention that apparently carrying out those fantasies and torturing your creature in B&W was what made you fall in love with gaming 0.o No disrespect intended but I can see how that was a bit worrying...

I think it's likely they meant in the regions depicted in the game, which would make sense.

During the period of "Empire", the most violent atrocities were reserved for when European powers conquered colonies. Even then, they never went around doing mass genocide. The Native Americans got nearly genocided, but most of them died of disease, not the Europeans. When European powers took over rival powers, they never conducted mass killings of the populous.

This post is silly. How can you say the "animation is retarded" when you haven't even seen the game in motion? So, you have literally one piece of evidence to support that CA is "dumbing down" the series, which is... beach landings? You realize CA has been wanting to do those for a while, right? Promotional material for FoTS showed naval ships off the coast, firing on troops in battle, but they didn't have the time to implement it.

Alright, so then after you claim CA is dumbing the game down, you say that "history nerds" are making the factions boring? Wat. And then you ask for a console port! Because CA is stupid for dumbing the game down, so let's make it more complex by trying to put a grand strategy game on a console without a keyboard. Because that makes sense. As to the rest of your post, the Romans did raze a few cities (notably Carthage), but I'm not sure why you'd do it in game, because it would lose you money and production resources.

TL;DR: Your post is bad, and you should feel bad!

Well I'm sorry, I don't think beach landings are necessarily a bad thing, more that they seem as more like something that's there because it's "cool" and "cinematic" to look at. Gameplay wise I can see it being a hindrance to getting your troops to the walls, and historically it wasn't exactly a thing that happened.

I'm firmly in the camp of New Kingdom Egyptians but fighting in Hellenistic style, a compromise between the two would suit me fine though. As I said I'd the option because for 1) I like to roleplay as a tyrant and 2) it has gameplay applications in that makes troublesome cities behave themselves.

I'm sorry for unloading my personal issues on everyone, I don't really have anyone I can talk to about this kind of thing so I can be forward to an inappropriate degree. I'll check out that personal issues forum perhaps.

I don't know about razing cities, but I would like a scorch-and-burn policy is retreating where you destroy resources in local towns and farms, though only if there is a supply system. I believe it was even used by Arthur Wellesley, though I think he just made sure there was no food for the French and took it with him. It was a geniune, effective tactic in the past.
