I watched the 1940's Superman cartoons where he fought Japanese and German agents, I saw old tapes of the black and white 1950's series where he battled mobsters and bank robbers, I watched reruns of Superfriends on Cartoon Network, and now I have just seen the movie.

I think this movie captured the very essence of Superman films. Metropolis had just the right ambience and atmosphere. Spacey did a good job playing Lex Luthor as well. There's something about Luthor; he's indescribably evil and conniving, yet he has charm.

This comic describes exactly what I felt.

Yes, i like the fact how they pick up where they continue the storyline of the last movies but actually do a sequel that is GOOD. I was amazed.

I've never been sure about Superman. He IS an alien from outer space, after all. Why should he be trusted? He isn't even human, or anything like human...he isn't even a human-spider hybrid, or a human-mutant, or a human-in-disguise...he could be capable of anything.

Apparently he's human enough to bang up a chick.

But yea, Superman Returns was great. I still prefer Spiderman, but the quality of the movie was way above the Spiderman movies - I just like Spiderman way more and he doesn't wear underwear outside his pants.

That makes him even MORE untrustworthy. I've posted this before, but I'll do it again to emphasise this point:

I think that the last two DC comic movies were great, them being Batman Begins and Superman Returns. Both were great movies that captured the heroes and the cities the way they're supposed to be.

Lex Luthor has always been a rather charming villain. Yes, his plans usually involve killing billions of people, but he's still likeable. You have to admit that his fondness for opera, classical music and literature makes him much more cultured than the average mobster. He's brilliant and devious, but always manages to hire the most incapable assistants. He reminds me of Blackadder in a way, because both of them are cursed with having morons under them.

    Superman cartoons

The above link has old Superman cartoons for free, and it's run by AOL so it's legal. I'm watching The Eleventh Hour episode right now, which is one of the WW2 propaganda cartoons.
