^I've actually been thinking about this, but their are a few advantages to the current set-up:
1. While the Hylian Infantry do have a greater attack, they have less defense against missile attacks
2. Slower animations mean more moments of vulnerability for Hylian Infantry, and the Hylian Knights are capable of defending themselves in melee more effectively
3. While 2h units typically get a bonus to cavalry, they are less effective in certain circumstances against faster infantry (kind of in line with #2), and Hylian Knights can better deal with melee threats, as per their elite skill.
4. Hylian Infantry, in my mind, rely on moral and armor to hold the line, and the fact that they have 2h-swords means that they can perform more effectively on offense for charging and breaking lines. The sword and shield set-up of the Hylian Knights allow them to fill their more defensive roles, as I believe that it should be.
