The skating and swing movement of unit could be avoid totally (when the units legs don't move but the unit itself is still moving in some direction) ,includ the close units(nearby) and the far units .Close units, the sense of skating in STW2 is fewer than Etw,but this problem is still existence, and in melee fight, because the unit collide eachother, the skating motion will happen too. I think CA can return to the Rtw design: RTW units has no skating movement, and if the unit in fighting , they foot is already in walking , and they have no suddenly swing or rock movement that caused by collision and extrusion. In far units ,their movement could also ruturn to RTW, it's seem better than ETW and STW2.

This problem is begining in ETW,continue in STW2,it decrease the sense of battle playing very much,so in the most great game——ROME2,it could must be disappear totally~~~!

could some one have the same sence with me~?

I can assure you the problem already had a history by the time ETW came around.

I know English is not your first language, but at least you can try something better than automated translation. Its an ugly sight, esp. for an opening post.....

isn't it actually a little bit realistic to have units drifting around a little bit when fighting? I believe I once read somewhere that units of men had a tendency to move right while fighting since every men wanted to crawl as far as possible behind the shield of his neighbour to the right of him. I could be wrong of course

Yes saw that on TV (I think) recently but I think its balderdash, if you hold a shield it your left arm you would have a tendency to move it to your right and cover more of your own body so rather then a unit moving to the right it would move to the left as everyone would be moving their shields to the right.

However what would make a unit move as a whole to the right is the constant movement of the striking arm, that is of course assuming shields are held in the left arm and swords or spears are held in the right. Experiment for someone perhaps?

Anyhow that is not what the OP is talking about.

Edit: I have that back to front a unit would move to the right if it had only shields but would move to the left if it used its weapon, but who cares exit stage left I mean right.

This was common in greek armies, romans did not shield each other though

I'm hardly an expert but I'm not sure if I believe you. Especially with the horizontal handle in the center of a roman shield it's already natural to have the shield covering an area to the left of you when you have it in your hands

I believe I have read that before also and I remember it was something to do with Phalanx formations.

You are not wrong, it is true.

And I think that it should stay as it was in RTW, MTW.

I think he was talking about the skating rink phenomena.

where units and individual soldiers behave as if they were playing in an electric football game,
