There has been some speculation on wich factions will be in the game. I remember reading somewhere that James Russel said in an interview there would be about 50 factions in the game, if not more.
I was wondering, based on our knowlidge of the period, how many factions could we come up with? And could we based on what we know puzzle together exactly how many differant factions there will be. for example: in how many factions is CA going to split the greek city-states, or the tribes of Gaul?
(bare in mind I speak of factions in-game, not just playable factions)
So I'll start with some basic factions:
1. Rome (Duuuh!)
2. Carthage
3. Egypt
4. Seleucids
5. Parthia
6. Macedonia
7. Greek City States (a)
8. Pontus
9. Armenia
10. Numedia
11. Sparta (b)
12. Pergamon (c)
13. scythia
14. epirus
15. Thrace (d)
(a) some sort of league of smaller city-states led by Athens
(b) James Russel gave an example in a swedish magazine of Sparta playing very differantly than other greek states. it alsdo sticks with their new 'starting small' philosophy, and RS II pulled it off quite nicely, so I think it has high chances of being a nation of it's own.
(c) Pergamon was a Diadochi state under the attalid dynasty, and grew quite large historicly, so I think it also has a good chance.
(d) I'm not entirly sure wether Thrace is a legitimate faction, or just a large entity of smaller barbarian tribes. so It may not belong on this list.
Note that I did not include any of the barbarian factions, because they could technically be divided in to so many tribes, I would rather do the rest first, and then use the remaining "slots" the fill in the Celts, Germans, Gauls etc.
