Default google bans firearms related sales search results

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/frankmin...i-gun-brigade/

I have already done the switch over to bing for my search engine. I assume many in this forum support googles decisions but I am certianly not one of them.

Hypocritically of course, google claims to support freedom of expression and exchange of information on the internet.

    Who uses google shopping?

Anyways I typed in 'gun sales' and got 15 local stores to come up. So while I think Google is being a bit wussy I wouldn't put this into the censorship camp yet.

Yeah it's Google Shopping, and it has always been terrible. One of the few areas they apparently don't want to compete with Yahoo.

I typed AR-15 into google shopping and no results. You still get regular SERPs, its just not appearing in shopping results.

I did a general search, not google shopping, which is for people with AOL accounts.

    Not at all.
Google shopping is the fastest way to do comparative pricing from a huge variety of stores.

Exactly. Google never said they were banning firearms from all search results just from shopping results. You must have misunderstood what Google did.

And you use an AOL account? Seriously?

The NWO is almost upon us then. You take away a citizen's right to defend himself, and the government can do what they want. Just look at Europe's massive decline.

Honestly, I'm perfectly fine defending myself with the kitchen knife downstairs or failing that, the 3 Iron in my wardrobe.

Yeah, it's awful to have unarmed people in my neighborhood... So much peace... So little gunshot sounds... Oh God, I can't even sleep at night anymore.
Belgium is such a Third World dictatorship since we banned guns.

How can you have peace if you cannot even defend yourself?

It seems to me that your peace is completely built on the good behavior of your neighbors - I call that an illusion, since people are not to be trusted.

This is just like the thread about zoning laws and the Christian preacher -- a bunch of utter nonsense by people with the most inexplicable victimization complex. This was a built-in family browsing feature to Google's search engine, and then all the hyperbolic crap follows suit from the NRA camp making it all about them and somehow the Second Amendment (since when the Second Amendment applied to how an Internet search engine is designed who knows, apparently Forbes editors moonlight as as court justices these days) while ignoring that it covers a wide suite of items. Meanwhile gun ownership in America is the highest in two decades and gun rights have expanded under the current administration.

Google also introduced labeling based on adult content so that advertising with explicitly sexual imagery and language are filtered too. Can't wait to see the Forbes op-ed crying about that violation of First Amendment rights. Because it is just about freedom, right?

OH btw, just to conclude -- this 'censorship' only occurs when you turn Safe Search on. You. Voluntarily. It's written right in the Google policy page that's linked in the article.

tl;dr -- wake me up when someone is actually trying to curb the sale of weapons or limit someone's actual ownership of them. Also Frank Miniter is an obtuse, transparent idiot.

Not the good ones. I've been droolling over some H&K weapons assembled from official parts kits, and those get dang expensive. For instance to put together a G36 build will cost you at least five thousand dollars, because you need a parts kit, an H&K SL8 rifle, 922r compliant parts, and then you have to pay someone to do the work, not to mention $200 and several months of waiting if you SBR it. Why do I always like the expensive things.

can you yanks get SA80s? (L98A2 would be the semi-only version, L85A2 is the issue weapon) They are a great deal of fun to shoot (not that I had much to compare them to ofc, but they where more fun than the SLR I got to use, less so than the Bren. )
