    Default Question about Crusade chivalry

I really like using Crusades to my advantage, but my main problem is that I can't really join them because they will destroy my mostly high dread generals. So I'm planning on changing the triggers for the chivalry boosting Crusade traits and ancillaries where they require neutral or better chivalry in order to get them.

My question is, are there any other ways that generals will get chivalry from going on crusade? Or is it 100% done through traits and ancillaries?

Edit: Also, just a random question, does anyone else think that you should be getting dread rather than chivalry for traveling halfway around the world just to murder a bunch of random people? That whole crusade chivalry thing never made much sense to me.

For your "why do you get chivalry for crusades" question...

Your thinking in 21st century sensabilities... the game deals with 11-13th century thinking. If the Pope said god demands that everyone go kill muslims... then that is the greatest and most holy thing you can do in your life.
You can rape, murder, steal every day of your life and all is forgiven if you go on Gods commanded crusade.

That would apply today too surely should the pope demand it. The catholic church claims the pope is gods representative so if you are catholic you should do whatever the pope says and many people including heads of state are catholic. Same thing goes for all churches with claimed earthly representation.

I think it's not just the pope that can incite people to do horrible things to eachother, but that's something we should leave to the ethics and mores department

I guess that makes sense. But at the same time, you still get dread for stuff like executing Muslims while on crusade though. People would probably have had different reasons for going on crusade. I think the traits you receive should be based on whether you're already dreadful or chivalrous. A dreadful noble and a "chivalrous" noble would probably go on crusade for different reasons.

Plus it's annoying gameplay-wise since you'd almost always want dread on your generals and chivalry only on your governors, so you can never send your actual generals on crusade.

Back then execution was always seen as dreadful. Saladin was seen as a righteous foe by Christian Europe and his own people as a result of the instances in which he showed mercy and restraint. His people did not think worse of him for it even though his religion might have demanded he kill people. Even religion has a hard time making people that cold-blooded.
