    Default Who would like to change governments

    ..to add variety to your favorite faction each time you play - Tyrant, Monarch, Republic, Democracy, Tribal, etc

    Different government allow different soldiers to be recruited, as;

    Aristocratic Ruled Civilized societies would encompass;

    (1) Aristocratic Nobles – moderate number, highly skilled, moderate condition, high moral, highly armoured warriors – +2 chevrons
    (2) Civilized commoners – small number, moderate condition, good moral soldiers
    (3) Civilized poor – Huge number, poor condition, poor moral (untrustworthy?), levies.

    Republican Ruled Civilized societies would encompass;

    (1) Aristocratic Nobles – small number, highly skilled, moderate condition, high moral armoured warriors – +2 chevrons
    (2) Civilized commoners – large number, good condition, good moral armoured soldiers
    (3) Civilized poor – large, poor condition, poor moral (untrustworthy?), levies.

    Democratic Ruled Civilized societies would encompass;

    (1) Aristocratic Nobles – small number, highly skilled, moderate condition, poor moral armoured warriors – +1 chevrons
    (2) Civilized commoners – huge number, good condition, high moral armoured soldiers - +1 chevron
    (3) Civilized poor – small number, poor condition, average moral levies.

    Slave warriors would vary from society – in Rome Slave Warriors (Gladiators) would be highly skilled with varying trustworthiness. In Sparta slave warriors (Helots) had developed strong family bonds by 500 BCE so could be considered – average skill, trustworthy.

    I’m open for counter opinions, nothing set in stone here.

    I say yes. Put it in as a optional option whether one want this in their campaign or not.

    I like this idea, but I doubt that CA would add that much depth to the campaign (sadly).

    CA will never do this as they want to cater to the masses, so they won't make it more complex.

    And I don't like this idea, I want them to stay true to Rome total war while only changing it a bit to improve things such as AI and all that.

    I wouldn't like to see it, because it would become too speculative.

    Seeing as they have already discussed the idea of becoming emperor etc. I wouldn't doubt that like recent games in the series Rome II will feature political reforms in some form. Likely Monarchy/Emperor, Republic, Greek Democracy or some such. And seeing as certain units were only available during certain governments in past games I again wouldn't be surprised if for example you can only train imperial praetorian guard legions as an emperor.

    I guess to many options, Considering the interviews I expect to governmental situations that are generally the same for the factions except for the name and a few minor details.

    1: Republic (for Rome and carthage), leagues (for greeks), confederation (for celtic, german and steppe factions) This government type could give a bonus to the happines of the higher classes. Needs some nice political system with consuls, etc.
    2: Empires, kingdoms, tirannies etc. Could give a bonus to the happiness of lower classes (they like a strong leader) and gives you a family tree

    That way you can get to the choice they have been hinting at, you choose to defend the republic or become an empire. Makes the endgame more interesting

    edit: you beat me to it DG

    It doesn't belong in this time period. It belongs in games like Empire, Napoleon, etc, but not in the classical era. In the classical era, the idea of a Republic, is a lot different from our idea of a Republic and frankly didn't exist beyond the borders of Greece and Rome. This will already be in the game, as they confirmed that there will be a crucial choice between the republic or dictatorship (aka empire), but only Rome had this kind of political upheaval. This wasn't France in the 18th century.

    Oh please, no one is saying this should be french style revolutions in ETW and NTW. Greek and Hellenistic states change government types all the time (Tyrany, democracy, monarchy) and Rome went from monarchy, to republic, to dictatorship to empire. Barbarian tribes would go from confederacy to monarchy and back again all the time. Its silly to say changing government doesn't fit into the era. It is totally period realistic and would add a fun layer to the game.

    I hate lame comments like this.

    Total War needs deeper campaigns with greater replay value and far more features, especially political.
