Default A really sad and frusterating problem =/

    Hello again everyone,

So after every great battle where I get a heroic victory against all odds, battles that take quite awhile to win, there is about a 50/50 chance the game crashes after the battle stats screen when I press the checkmark to go back to the campaign map...

Is there any reason why this is happening in perticular? Any way to fix it?

    Thanks

What version are you playing? That happened to me a lot in version 2.1a but it is more stable in 2.5 beta. Actually, I never had a crash post-battle in version 2.5.

I've had it ONCE with 2.1a. It never happens to me in 2.5. Its said that you'll reduce the chance of a CTD by waiting a certain amount of time before returning to the campaign map.

Also im getting the feeling that it only happens on slow(ish) pc's?? Can someone confirm or deny this

I CTD after a major battle happens nearly every time on my MBP with a Core i5, 4GB of RAM, and an ATI HD 6750 running a Momentus XT hybrid drive. I don't think it's a "slowish" PC issue. This was on a clean install of RTW and BI. I've tried adjusting all the setting to lowest, no AA, and it still doesn't help in 2.5. I've also waited for a good long 5 minutes and still get a crash.

It got so frustrating this week that last night I started with a fresh copy again of my clean install and only installed RS 2.0, I'm going to play about 5 years into a campaign and fight some more battles. Assuming it works I'll install version 2.1a and repeat. Assuming that works, I'll make another copy and install version 2.5 and see where that gets me. Currently I'm running 2.0 on high settings for everything with the better unit and texture settings, unit size set to huge. My 40 minute battle went fine last night.

    This keeps coming back around.....

    It's not the mod.

It's the RTW/BI/Alex engine and what it's doing when it's saving files back to your PC - for that particular (and I suspect the one from the Occupy/Enslave/Exterminate screen) CTD - I have become positive.

    - Do not install in 'Programs' that Windows tries to protect

    - Do not do anything else on your PC at the same time - just play RSII

    - Best - disconnect from the internet and turn off any Anti-Virus (re-enabling before you re-connect)

    - Absolute best - have a dedicated standalone PC loaded with Windows and RTW/RSII - and absolutely nothing else (which is what I have for all the testing - I now have a CTD only when something is genuinely wrong).
"RTW/RS VH campaign difficulty is bugged out (CA bug that never got fixed) and thus easier than Hard so play on that instead" - apple

Coming back to the mod last week after not playing RTW for a year or 2, I was having this problem every time I fought Hannibal as Rome. I even gave it 5-6 mins on the post battle screen once and it still crashed. It was really pissing me off. I reinstalled the game and followed some suggestions from the stickies on how to prevent ctd's like running the game in winxp compatibility mode (I have win7), leave the vegetation detail on default (I have a core i7 @ 4.4 GHz, GTX 570, 16 GB ram and the battles were not smooth with vegetation set at high quality), etc. Ever since then, not one post battle crash. I still give it at least a min to be safe.

Lol, I have anything but a Slow(ish) pc...I can run Shogun 2 maxed out on everything and it be smooth as butter.

The battles themselves have zero lag issues, I have units set to high as suggested, veg, terrain, grass normal, on huge unit settings.

And I -know- I installed it right because to be safe I did the whole, install to a folder then copy into RTW folder.

Also someone asked what version im playin, its the newest one, 2.5 I believe

But thanks folks, I just really dont wanna hafto reinstall considering I dont have a clean copy of RTW (I know I know im terrible...)

Ill try waiting a bit after the battle stat screen pops. Also im playin on steam, dunno if that has anything to do with anything.

    Thanks again!

We're trying a few things for 2.6 to try to reduce those.

Okay, so the clue is to reduce vegetation and so on in the RSII launcher?
    I will try that!

R:TW is a game that dates from before 2004/2005. Just because your PC can handle Shogun2 does not mean it will do the same with R:TW.

The R:TW engine does not make use of many features on modern graphics cards and also CPUs (it only uses a single core for instance).
