    Default Orthodox Priests

My friend started playing this beautiful mod earlier this week, and asked me what priests were actually for, and him playing as Russia (R. of Novgorod), I gave him the run down, but since I have never played an orthodox faction can their priests be elected as cardinals, and later become pope?

Not 100% sure if this is a serious question, but no, Orthodox, Muslim, and Pagan factions cannot get their religious characters elected as Cardinals or Pope. Only Catholic factions.

I knew pagan priests and Imams weren't eligible to become cardinals, but was unsure with orthodox factions, thanks for the quick reply.

They can however become Patriarchs, which would be similar to a Catholic Archbishop/Cardinal.

Orthodox Priests can become a Patriarch and they generally have high piety. Although I think you can only have one though since they are the religious leader.

Orthodox priests work similarily to any other priest character in the game: they can spread your religion by slowly converting people in their current region. Religious support influences public order and with BGR submod also troop availability. Priests can also remove Heretics and Witches in the same way that assassins kill characters. Removing heretics/witches can be beneficial, since they spread religious unrest to regions by converting your subjects into their own beliefs. The chance of succes is determined by your priest's piety and the target's piety. Also, I'm not sure but I think that piety also affects the conversion rate of your priest. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Orthodox Priests can become indeed Patriarchs, but each orthodox faction can have only one Patriarch at a time (since he is the religious leader). Patriarchs have very high piety and increased movement for better ability fight off religious unrest. Useful characters, but nothing really special about them.
