Default ROMAN ARMY (LEGIONS) how it should be in the game

    The Roman Army (Legion)

    - The Roman army was made up of groups of soldiers called legions. There were over 5,000 soldiers in a legion. Each legion had its own number, name, badge and fortress. There were about 30 legions around the Roman Empire.

-A legion had commanders, officers and ordinary soldiers. There were also doctors, engineers and other workers.

    - The Roman army was divided into legions of about 5,000 men.

    *Contubernium
    : consisted of 8 men.
*Centuria: (century) was made up of 10 contubernium with a total of 80 men commanded by a centurion.
*Cohorts: (cohort) included 6 centurie, a total of 480 men.
*Legio: (Legion) consisted of 10 cohorts, about 5,000 men.
*Eques Legionis: Each legio had a cavarly unit of 120 attached to them.

    Contubernium
    (8 men) > Centuria (80 men) > Cohort (480 men) > Legio (5,000 men)

Hi everyone,I just want to say CA should make roman legions in the game something like this..nothing scifi..nothing more nothing less....around 5000 man in legion.I think there will be 40 slots as in FOTS..so 130 soldiers per unit in base will be nice.. 130x40=5200==One legion and of course someone who wants a bigger army,,there should be option to increase that...another idea is,that CA should allow as to make a decision..how every legion what we will recruit into full 40 slots will be called (from 1 to 30 very good known legions...for example Legio VI Victrix etc. ) or maybe they will do that as in mod RS2 both options are good anyway....we will see...

You forgot auxillaries Mate & also first cohort thing. First cohort was bigger than others. Also in Imperial times there was about 11 000 men per legion in this number is included auxillaries.

yes I know but around 5000 soldiers will be enough in the game per legion ..but when you will call reinforcement, another legion there will be already 10 000 men...

they said with the new graphic engine tens of thousands soldiers are able to be on battlefield, so about 20000-40000. So why only 5000 soldiers per legion when there could be 10000? (:

Yes exactly tens of thousands soldiers..one legion 5000...four legions against another 4 is 40 000 soldiers on the battlefield ..so don't worry

Historically the legion consisted of 5000-5200 soldiers, so to keep historical accuracy that should be the number.

It will interesting to see how CA handle it. Now that they're heading towards much larger numbers of troops, their standard sized units maybe end up being bigger than their historical counter parts.

A Roman cavalry turma? Only 30 men.
    A maniple? A mere 120, and only 60 in a triarii maniple.

At the same time some units were really big.

A cohort comes in at a respectable 480, but that's nothing compared to a hellenistic phalanx of 1024, 2048 or even a whopping 4096.
    When in doubt, attack.

I'd love to see it, but I agree until we know the armies system...it's merely speculating.

It would be great if CA could make authentic Legions Adufka. I suppose the ingame numbers will depend on how CA develop the battlefield sizes.
Also will one Legion constitute an army or a combination of several Legions, Will they develop an in battle reinforcement system?
Will they work on CPU optimization to allow for full dual core or more to stop frame freezing with large armies?
Its all up in the air at the moment.
Thanks though for the post subject.

Offcourse there is a number of ca. 6000 man per legion but in reallity were never more than the half of them marching in field. The ranks were never full and much of them were ill or just had to stay as garrison.

They've been saying that you'll be able to have tens of thousands of men on the field since medieval 2 ! If they have actually made it happen this time I just hope they've optimized well and got it running on multiple cores.

Well if you stick to 20 units per stack, for the Romans that would give every 2 units representing 1 cohort, so 240 men per card. Assuming R2 follows on from FOTS, then that will mean you can have 2 legions fighting on screen at the same time (>10,000 men, plus about another 10,000 on the enemy's side), although obviously more legions will be able to join the fray as reinforcements as units leave the field of battle.

That being said, we haven't heard anything from CA on the supposed new system for armies so anyone's guess is as good as mine
